Celebrity Prom HairStyle: Joss Stone

Joss Stone is almost as famous for her gorgeous long blonde hair as she is for her spectacular voice.

Joss is only 18 years old but has already appeared on many Red Carpets around the world. She has also collaborated with some of the world's most famous R&B talent.

Joss prefers to wear her waist-length tresses either long and tousled or with lots of soft waves and curls. The hairstyle she wore at the recent 14th Annual Ella Awards would be perfect for anyone with super long locks attending the Prom.

If you would love to recreate Joss' long wavy look above, follow the steps listed below for a similar hairstyle.

Getting Started Notes

If time is of the essence, the best way to create this long luscious style is with the help of a small to medium sized curling iron.

When you have the luxury of time, you can opt for old fashioned rag rollers or pin curls worn overnight. Or you can even do a wet set with large sponge curlers or finger curls.

Creating This Style At Home

When enough time is allowed to recreate this style, you will probably not require the assistance of a skilled hairdresser. If you are all thumbs or want that professional touch, a seasoned hairdresser could easily create this look for you in the comfort of a salon.

Make sure that if you select the services of a professional hairdresser for your Prom that you have at least one pre-Prom meeting so that the hairdresser can gauge exactly how much time it will take to curl your entire head of hair. Keep in mind that the longer and thicker your strands, the more time it may take to create your dream waves and curls.

In case you decide to create the style at home make sure to schedule several practice runs before the night of the big hair event. Guarantee ultimate at-home styling success by asking a friend or family member to help you with any challenging steps.

Best Styling Tips

The key to this gorgeous look is to avoid over styling it. As much as possible, use your hands and digits to arrange your strands, finger picking them into place. Limiting your use of a comb and brush to touch ups or focused backcombing creates that desired unkempt quality.

This style works best for hair that is shoulder length or longer and medium in texture. Although this super long tousled style might be difficult to recreate on ultra curly or stick straight hair, it would work well on strands that are naturally wavy.

Ideally this style should be created on hair that has been previously washed, dried and allowed to “age” at least a few hours to give the hair’s natural oils time to build up. If this style is created on freshly shampooed hair, it must be prepared properly with the appropriate styling products to counter any soft slippery strands.

Regardless of your hair's texture, type or actual length, it is important to start with strands that are dressed properly with the necessary styling products to help hold the finished set.

Although you may need a good hairspray to help hold the style, use the softest type of product available to get a soft fluid wavy hold.

Even though Joss' style was initially designed with a center part along with an off-the-face sweeps of side hair to show off her gorgeous eyes, a variety of different parts and bangs could easily be incorporated into a customized version. This style could also be worn without either.

Before you start make sure that you have all the proper tools including plenty of hairpins, a good brush and comb. If you wish to add hair accessories be sure you have them ready to be added to the style at the end.

Instructions - Steps to Create

To copy Joss' long waves, perform the following steps:

(Image of Joss Stone - all rights - 1. Begin by washing hair with shampoo designed for your type, texture and current condition of hair.

Select a super moisturizing shampoo formula like Robert Hallowell's Shine Booster Shampoo which celebrity hairdresser Robert actually uses on many of his celebrity clients.

Other formulas you might try include Phytojoba or one designed for colored hair like Phytocitrus. For ultra dry or super fragile strands, use the dry hair formulas and dilute the shampoo for extra gentleness.

2. For hair that is dry, damaged or chemically treated, follow the shampoo with a rinse-out conditioning treatment.

For more information or to order this dress call (866)345-4696 or visit http://www.christina Apply your favorite rinse-out conditioning product. Robert Hallowell's Prawduct - shine booster conditioner is an excellent rinse out conditioner for all hair types.

3. Be sure to match the product to your hair type, texture and condition. Work the conditioner into the driest parts of your hair. Leave on for up to five minutes. Rinse well. Finish with a cool to cold water rinse.

4. Towel blot hair (do not rub) and gently squeeze excess moisture.

5. Detangle hair and create desired front part.

6. Apply a cocktail of leave-in conditioner and anti-frizz products. For soft hold, apply a mousse. For extra hold apply a gel or gel/mousse product. 7. For straight or naturally wavy hair, use a soft round boar's head brush or similar natural bristle brush, work around the perimeter of your head and blow dry hair in two inch sections. For naturally curly hair, detangle and then blow dry with a long finger diffuser attachment.

8. When hair is 100% dry, use a small to medium barrel curling iron. Work around the entire head curling 1-2" individual sections with the iron. After you release each newly formed curl, carefully pin against the scalp. Continue this process until your entire head of hair has been curled and pinned in place.

Note: Keep in mind that the smaller the barrel of the curling iron and the less hair that is used in each section, the tighter the curls.

9. Allow newly formed curls to completely cool.

10. Spray with a firm hold hairspray for long term hold. Ones to try: Rene Furterer Instant Hold Finishing Spray, Robert Hallowell's Rawhold Hairspray.

11. Carefully remove all of the pins.

12. Use fingers or wide tooth hair pick to gently arrange the curls that cascade freely down towards the top of the shoulder.

13. Spray well with hairspray like Phytolaque or Jessica Simpson’s favorite Phytolaque Soie made with real silk to give an extra glossy look to the style.

14. Apply a drop or two of a shine serum like Phyto's PhyoLisse, Rene Furterer's Spray Gloss or Robert Hallowell's Love That Shine Drops to the palms of your hands. Rub the serum into the palms and then lightly glide over the top of the style to add instant shimmer and shine. 15. Attach any desired hair accessory to the finished style. Because this is such a unkempt style, if accessories are added, they should be small to avoid detracting from the style’s ultimate design.

Note: Remember to always attach accessories last after all styling products have been applied to avoid damaging delicate accessories.

The variations on this wavy style are endless. Instead of wearing your hair hair down, you have the option to sweep the sides up and wear a half up/half down style with waves cascading down your back.
