The iconic Mad About You actress will be celebrating her 51st birthday in a few days on June 15th .  The  American actress, film director, and screenwriter has won an Oscar®, four Emmy awards, four Golden Globes and two Screen Actor's guild awards.

Helen Hunt's Hair, unlike the actress' on-screen performances, has received mixed reviews over the years.

She was nominated, but didn't win, in the 2013 Best Supporting Actress category for her role in The Sessions.   Even though she lost out on the gold statue, she won a long list of other awards for her role including the Golden Globe and The Screen Actor's Guild awards.

At the 2013 Oscars® she looked gorgeous with her long golden tresses worn in soft Old Hollywood waves.  It was elegant, yet soft and easy.

The Famous Hair Tuck

When Helen was starring on Mad About You her habit of persistently tucking her hair behind her ears was criticized as being an ongoing distraction.

The actress had plenty of practice pushing her hair behind her ears.  She starred in the sitcom Mad About You for seven years before being cast in the 1997 romantic comedy film, As Good as It Gets, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Hair Kudos For Soft, Easy Glamour

Some of her other notable films include Twister, Cast Away, What Women Want, Pay It Forward, Soul Surfer and The Sessions. She made her directorial debut in 2007 with Then She Found Me.

While some hair experts gave Helen Hunt's hair 5 stars for soft easy glam, others felt her hair often was too soft, too casual and too tousled to meet movie star standards back in the day.

Even still, throughout the years, whether she wore her long California golden blonde hair loose and down around her shoulders or pulled up, she won kudos from the majority of the hair and fashion media for always looking classically undone.

A notoriously private person, the actress always appeared to favor less formal hairstyles and fashions overall.   Helen also seem unconcerned with what the media deemed hair appropriate for her.

Helen Hunt's Hair Loose Twist

In December of 2012, the Oscar®-winning actress attended the 2012 Governors Awards at The Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, CA, Saturday.

She wore her dark golden blonde hair pulled back into a soft loose twist positioned at the nape of her neck.  Her hair was pulled slightly behind her ears, preventing any hair tucking.  The hair along the sides showcased a slight wave.

Helen Hunt's hair at the Governors Awards Ceremony was an easy breezy style with a touch of glamour.  Her wavy hair was gathered into a loose low pony and wrapped into a soft twist.

Although the actress is still acting, over the years she's transitioned from in front of the camera to behind the scenes as a director and producer.

In 2007, Helen made her directorial film debut with Then She Found Me.  She also starred in the dramatic comedy along with Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler and Colin Firth.

The actress played a supporting role in the 2011 true-life story Soul Surfer with Dennis Quaid.  They appeared onscreen as the parents of a young female surfer who loses her arm in a shark attack.

Winning Awards For Sessions

In 2012, Hunt returned to directing. This time to helm an episode of  Californication starring David Duchovny.  She also starred in the well-received independent drama The Sessions opposite John Hawkes.

In the film, Hunt plays a sex therapist who works with a man in a iron lung.  The movie picked up two awards at the Sundance Film Film Festival.

In 2013 she again directed an episode of Californiation and co-starred in "Decoding Annie Parker" film about the almost discovery of the cure for cancer.

Surfing

A big fan of surfing, Helen is often spotted riding the waves with her family, her blonde hair slicked back.  To honor her love of the sport the actress directed and starred in Ride with Luke Wilson, who plays her on-screen love interest.

The film was shot all over Southern California and on the shores of Malibu.

Summary - Helen Hunt's Hair

Who knows what this next birthday year for Helen Hunt will bring.  Maybe she's add to her collection of awards, or maybe she'll break with her long hair traditions and adopt an electrically color Mohawk.

Or maybe she'll just remain her normal cool, calm and quiet movie star self and keep a low hair profile

In Hollywood, anything's possible.

Daily Hair Tip
When towel drying wet hair never rub hair roughly or twist up into a towel. This will potentially damage delicate hair cuticles. Instead carefully blot hair with superabsortant towel and squeeze hair gently to remove moisture.
