Nicholas Brendon aka Xander From Buffy Hunts Criminals

Last updated on February 12th, 2009 by Karen Marie Shelton

Nicholas Brendon was beloved as part of the Vampire Slayer gang on the days of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (BtVS).

He played Buffy’s best friend, Xander Harris.  Nicholas along with the rest of the cast became cult favorites.

He certainly was one of my favorites and I was very sad to see BtVS and Nicholas leave the world of vampire killing.

During the course of the Buffy series from 1997 through 2003 Nicholas appeared in 145 episodes, exactly the same number as Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar).

After Buffy ended Nicholas appeared in TV’s Kitchen Confidential for 13 episodes.  He played Seth Richman until the show was canceled.

From Kitchen Confidential he went on to appear in six episodes of Huntsboy #89 on “American Dragon: Jake Long”.

Nicholas Brendon popped up last season (2008) on Criminal Minds as Analyst Kevin Lynch who took an interest Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), the team’s female computer geek and by the end of the first episode he appeared on, became her official boy friend on the show.

Although he then faded into the background as Garcia’s guy, he popped up very briefly on the February 11, 2009 episode.  It was only a flash and you had to look hard to catch him but he was definitely there as if he was hanging at work with his girlfriend Penelope.

Word in the media is that Nicholas will be performing on stage in Desperate Writers – The Final Draft at the Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica, California.  The dates for the stage performance were March 5 through April 12th.  IMDB lists a completed project for Nicholas as The Portal but gives the date as 2008.

As a fan, I hope Nicholas will be given a more expanded role on Criminal Minds.  Or possibly he and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), could have their own spin off show about the world of geeks.

Regardless, it has been nice to see Nicholas back on television.
