Ironically, thinning hair can be a good thing on women because the condition of the hair is often the body's way of sending a message that there may be some sort of internal problems.  Although hair loss might result from hereditary factors, it can also occur as a result of extended chemical abuse, wearing hair pulled back too tight or as a result of strict or extreme dieting.

Of course there can be more serious conditions reflected in hair loss.  Many women lose hair right before their menstrual period, during menopause and before, after or during pregnancy.  It can also be a symptom of iron or other vitamin deficiencies.

If you notice atypical hair loss than it may be important to check with your primary physician.
