Hair How To: Jenna Elfman's Short Uneven Choppy Bowl Cut

Actress Jenna Elfman (born September 30, 1971) is famous for her buttery blonde hues which she's worn both long and lush and in an array of short bobs, crops, shags and caps.

Although Jenna's most recent TV series "Accidentally on Purpose" was canceled, she appeared in the film "Friends With Benefits" starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake.

Jenna recently took her chin length bob even shorter with an uneven bowl style cut which combines a short choppy graduated cut with asymmetrical layers.  Jenna's new short hairstyle offers lots of styling versatility for her naturally medium thick, slightly wavy hair.  It can be style sleek and smooth or edgy, tousled and ruffled.

Short hairstyles no longer easily fit into neat little categories.  They lines are literally blurred between pixies, crops, caps, chops, bobs, bowls and shags.   Jenna's latest short cut is a classic example of the new generation of short hairstyles which borrow the best for a variety of styles into one haircut.

Since short haircuts are so diverse and often hard to define, print out several photos of short cuts you like and take them to your favorite hairstylist.

It's best not to try and put a label on a short cut you see because what you might define as a bowl your hairstylist might view as a different hairstyle.  Be sure to take large images and multiple views from front, back and sides.

Be willing to alter your desired short cut if your stylist offers better options based on your face shape, hair type, texture and condition.

Hair How To:  Step By Step

1.  Start with a short edgy hairtyle.

2.  Cleanse hair in lukewarm water with the formula best for your hair type, texture and condition.

3.  Apply appropriate rinse-out conditioners.

4.  Finish with cool water rinse.

5.  Towel blot to remove excess moisture.  Do not ruffle hair dry which can damage delicate strands.

6.  Apply a hair product cocktail (depending on your hair type, texture and condition) consisting of leave-in conditioner mixed with anti-frizz product.  If your hair is naturally curly or wavy you may also wish to use a straightening balm.

7. Blow dry hair straight using a "mini" flat or paddle brush.  If you prefer volume around the roots, use a boar's head round brush for root life and movement.

8.  Once hair is 100% dry back comb slightly through the roots with a boar bristle brush. Smooth down with your fingertips.

9.  Spritz hair with a styling  hairspray.

10.  Use either a mini flat iron to give hair a sleek finish or a 1/2" barrel curling iron to give it bend and movement.    Separate hair into small 1/4 to 1/2" sections.  Bend each section carefully around the barrel for a few seconds.  Release and let new texture cool.

11.  When hair has been completely ironed and cooled, use fingers to arrange strands into a soft sexy look.

12.  Finish with a light blast of soft hold hairspray.
