Summer Hairstyles: Flirty Ponytails

Audrina Patridge

Ponytails are in season all year long but there's nothing like a flirty Summertime pony to look chic and cool off your neck at the same time.

Audrina Patridge is the queen of ponytails and has rocked a wide range over the lifetime of her budding career.

The beautiful brunette has stunning eyes, lips and skin which instantly works in harmony with any pony style she selects.

At the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on June 6th Audrina upgraded her pony with lots of lush root lift from the hairline back towards the crown.

The sexy star of MTV's The Hills loves changing up her hairstyles and alters the look of her tails by making a range of subtle changes including:

1. Adding a range of fringes from side-swept to a shattered full frontal bang. 2. Incorporating a faux hair bump extending from the hairline to the crown. 3. Wearing a few well placed tendrils around her face. 4. Positioning her back ponytails at different heights from the crown to the nape of the neck. 5. Pulling hair sleekly to one side and creating a nape hugging pony. 6. Incorporating add-on hair to create a thicker, fuller tail. 7. Adding accent braids. 8. Changing up the texture from straight to wavy or curly.

Hair Style:

For her long standing role on The Hills Audrina sometimes utilizes hair accessories including headbands, hair clips and an array of plain and decorative bobby pins to pull the front of her hair up and off her face.

Afterall, when you're fighting the lastest drama you have to be ready for anything.

You can easily achieve Audrina's classy look which combines smoothly blown out hair with lush volume built throughout the top and crown. Hot irons are utilized along the perimeter to give Audrina's ends a slight curve and bend.

For hair which is naturally straight, hot rollers or a wet set with adhesive rollers dried under a hood unit will create more defined texture along the edges.

Audrina's hairstyles follow a similar style. They tend to be brushed off her stunning face and either directed into a long side swept fringe or off a side part.

Even while being lost on the island with the absence of hair salons and showers, her blonde tresses were beautifully tousled. Her precision placed highlights and lowlight looked like they were the result of long days in the sun.

Of course we all know better but they were very authentic for being lost on an island.

I don't think I've ever seen Audrina in any hairstyle - onscreen or off screen - that wasn't super flattering to her face.

Although from some angles Audrina appears to have a classically oval face, her jaw line is more square and she has a charming dimpled chin which gives her face character.

She has stunning chocolate brown eyes which pop when combined with her brunette tresses.

Hair Secrets:

The biggest secret to Audrina's well groomed silky locks are regular deep conditioning treatments combined with regular trims to keep ends in tip top shape.

Quick Hairstyling Tips:

Audrina's perky pony hair style is ideal for anyone with shoulder length or longer tresses which are medium in thickness with some natural waves or bend.

Audrina's hairstyle is best achieved on freshly cleansed hair properly prepped with styling products to give the hair appropriate workability.

Follow the styling tips below:

1. Cleanse hair with products designed specifically for your hair's type, texture, condition and/or special needs such as colored hair or to add volume. Add rinse-out conditioner and final cold water rinse.

2. Towel blot. Rake leave-in conditioning and appropriate styling cocktail through strands with wide tooth comb and/or fingers. Work styling cocktail through strands starting at the hairline and working down through the ends. Apply volume enhancing spray to roots for lots of lift.

Note: If your hair is prone to frizzing apply a defrisant product or mix with your other styling products. Many celebrities are big fans of Phytodefrisant.

3. Dry with a large boar bristle round brush and blow dryer with concentrator attachment. If you prefer to create tousled separation rather than sleek volume use a long finger diffuser instead.

4. Add lots of volume by flipping head upside down while drying. Blow dry until tresses are dry throughout the base, but still damp on the ends.

Flip head back to finish ends. Use a 2-inch round boar bristle brush. Turn hair slightly under at the ends. Blow hair back at temples. Direct strands away from the face briefly to create additional lift and shape.

5. Section off the top middle 2 inches, then put the rest of your strands in a high ponytail.

6. Capture the pony in a bungee elastic. The bungee band, which is a stretchy cord with a hook at each end will make the base of your ponytail stick out.

7. Tease the loose top section, finger-rake it back, and gently wrap a clear elastic around it and the ponytail.

8. Spritz the tail with texturizer for a tousled look.

9. Finish hair styling process with light holding spray. Swipe with light shine serum to capture random fly-a-ways and add bouncy shimmer.

The key to the sexy glamour of Audrina's hair is lush root volume, shimmering shine and loose waves throughout the edges. Avoid too much product or styling to keep hair soft.

Hairstyling Notes & Options

To add more volume after hair is completely dry separate hair into 2-inch sections. Spray base of hair with volumizing and/or finishing spray. Roll section towards back of head on large self adhesive rollers. Roll entire head in 2-inch sections down the middle of the head all the way to the nape of the neck.

Roll side hair downwards so strands will be curled under. Allow rollers to set for a minimum of 30-45 minutes.

Remove rollers using fingers to shake the hair free. Avoid disturbing new texture with comb or brush. Slightly back comb throughout crown and adjacent to hairline to add more volume. Finish with mist of light finishing spray.
