Paillettes: Hottest New Fashion Accessories

Michele Busch - Earrings - Set of Sterling Silver Filigree w/PaillettesI must confess that I had absolutely no idea what a paillette was until Michele Busch showed them to me when I stopped by to see her latest accessory designs at a recent Dallas market. Paillettes, as properly designated in the dictionary, or pailettes, as some spell them, are the hottest new accent trims glistening and sparkling their way down the recent fashion runways and Hollywood red carpets. Michele explained that paillettes are small pieces of metal or foil used to add shimmer and shine to any fashion design or accessories, such as earrings, bracelets and hair baubles. Simply put, paillettes are part of the bangle, spangle and sequin family. They come in an assortment of shapes, sizes and hues. The renowned fashion designer, Roberto Cavalli, has used these shimmer producing accents for his fabulous rockglam designs that have recently graced the voluptuous bodies of Kim Cattrall, Debra Messing and Paulina Rubio on Hollywood's star studded red carpets. Ever the glam queen, Jessica Simpson has been recently spotted with paillette accented earrings suspended from her stellar earlobes.

Michele Busch - Earrings - Set of Fuschia Paillettes, Beads & SwarovskiMichele Busch, who is an inspired fashion accessory designer, has utilized the whimsical bangles on her latest collection of earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Honoring the Summer's candy colored fashion trends, Michele has hand crafted an eye-popping array of earrings that combine the yummy vibrant hues with the shimmery bangle orbs. Michele Busch - Earrings - Set of Blue Paillettes, Beads & SwarovskiWhen Michele's paillette encrusted accessories arrived at I was stunned at how light and airy the designs feel when you wear them. The earrings feel as light as a feather. No need to worry about ripping delicate pierced earring earlobes when wearing these gorgeous designs. While Roberto Cavalli has studded his gorgeous gowns with the little sequins and Michele has spiced up her earrings, Monya Singh has added them to her beautiful bags spied on the arms of Gloria Estefan and the Sex And The City girls.

These shiny little objects are also popping up on a range of hair accessories from pony elastics (shown to the side) to barrettes, hairsticks, headbands and an assortment of hair baubles. If you want to experiment with these shiny accents consider investing in a stretchy pony elastic that can also be worn impromptu as a flirtateous bracelet.

Are paillettes a fleeting fashion trend? Based on a fashion predictions seminar that I attended last night, paillettes will continue to thrive since fashionista experts are predicting a major glam movement for the Fall 2004 and Winter 2005 fashions. Watch for these beauties to continue to be popular into 2005.
