I remember reading an article about Kate Hudson in the May 1999 issue of Bazaar Magazine.

According to the famous fashion tome the bubbly blonde starlet was on location in Ireland for the Miramax film "All About Adam" which was released in 2001.

While it might sound like fun to be on location in Dublin, Kate reported she was forced to take sponge baths for four days because the hot water was not working in the Georgian flat where she was living during the shoot.

Even worse the actress told Bazaar "I had to heat the water over the stove, dump it in the tub and take a bath in it, like 4 inches of water. And "then jump out and freeze." As if taking a freezing bath isn't enough, Kate told Bazaar her "heating" wasn't "working either."

How was Kate enjoying acting back in 2001? She told Bazaar "this business is a whirlwind." Back then Kate was feeling gratitude for her entry into the acting biz. She said "every day it's nice to stop and say 'Wait a minute I am so lucky! This is great!"

Sponge baths aside, Kate admitted to being homesick when away on film shoots. How did she deal with it? She likes to bring a little bit of home with her which includes famed photos of family and friends, her Nag Champa incense "a must" and sage. Why? She admitted "I know it sounds crazy but I put it in the corners of my room to clean out all the energy."

And don't forget her suitcase of shoes "cause that is important. Even though you end up only wearing two pairs."

Kate Hudson's Hair Evolutions

Although her life has gone through a series of major changes including having son Ryder and then getting divorced from his father, Chris Robinson, she takes it all in stride. In 2009 she made headlines dating famous Yankees slugger Alex Rodriquez. For awhile it looked like she might settle down with Rodriquez but it never happened. Now Rodriquez is serious with another blonde beauty - Cameron Diaz.

The daughter of Goldie Hawn appeared on the May 2011 cover of InStyle Magazine and showcased long honey blonde tresses which were coiffed in a series of dramatically soft and seductive updos. Her hair for the InStyle photo shoot was done by Ashley Javier with makeup by Romy Soleimani.

It's hard to believe that in 1996 Kate was on her first InStyle cover as a 17 year old. She shot the cover with her mother Goldie. She also was on the cover of InStyle in 2001 promoting a movie.

During her 2011 interview with InStyle the actress confessed to having a hair disaster. She confided that "two years ago I cut my own bangs. I was alone in the house and just got bored. I was like a little kid and ended up cutting them too thick and heavy. My hairdresser was made at me."

Summary

Kate Hudson is a free spirit who has gone through a variety of hair evolutions since she first exploded on the scene. as a young 17 year old on the cover of InStyle her hair was a dark dishwater blonde. Now as a 32 year old single mom expecting a second child this summer with her rocker boyfriend her hair is long, lush and kissed by golden honey hues.

Daily Hair Tip
To combat cowlicks apply pomade or setting gel to the spot & blow dry w/ nozzle aimed downwards. Longer hair helps weigh down cowlicks as will tiny barrettes or clips. Pulling hair into a ponytail or braids will tighten down the cowlick. Experiment until you get results.
