Introduction

Ever since I first met Ken Paves he has been all about debunking long held hair and beauty myths and rules that create artificial mental trap the way many women think about themselves.

Ken has always reminded me "it is very important to stay true to yourself" regardless of your age, your lifestyle or what other people may tell you".

When Ken is working with his many celebrity clients including Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria, to name just a few, he always starts with taking the time to understand their moods, personal goals and feelings. As he works on designing a hairstyle for his celeb client he focuses on styles which allow them to feel truly beautiful and self confident.

Life is always changing and Ken believes "a woman's personal style is constantly evolving and changing" as she goes through the various stages of her life.

He encourages all of his clients, whether celebrity or not, to be open to the changes that life brings and let their hair and style goals reflect their current mindset.

Ken believes woman should not allow themselves to be defined by any barriers or boundaries including age, size, race or any other factors. Ken has told me more than one time "no matter what your age or size, it is important to respect yourself and cherish your individuality".

Ken cautions against holding onto the past and encourages living in the moment and honoring your own individual beauty. Feeling great about yourself is the very best beauty serum. Great self esteem generates a natural sparkle and glow that can't be beat.

Hairstyles for Your 20s

Women in their 20s are often more experimental, establishing their recent adulthood, Ken Paves says. Have fun with your style!

Hair don’ts are definitely more forgiving at this age.

Ken says he doesn't usually recommend going to extremes, but if you are adventurous, now is the time. Establish what your likes and dislikes are. If you are a long-hair girl this would be a great time to go short.

Hairstyles for Your 30s Women in their 30s are usually settling into their careers as mothers and/or in the workforce. In our 30s, we often are at a place where we want to prove ourselves and be taken seriously. Ken Paves says he finds that most women are looking to reflect this.

Classic shapes that offer versatility work best here, Ken says—something that can take you from the office or home to a dinner out with the girls!

Many people say that the way a person keeps her home or car often reflects the state of their personal life; Ken says the same is to be said about your hair. If you want to be perceived as being together, then you do want a hairstyle that has clean lines and is well polished! Break away from your childhood style and embrace a chicer look!

Hairstyles for Your 40s

Women in their 40s usually begin to focus more on "maturing," Ken Paves says. "I do believe that this is the time to begin to see things your way."

When we look into the mirror we all have likes and dislikes. Sadly, for most people it is easier to see their flaws than to recognize their beauty, he says.

In order to see things our way we must recognize both. After you have recognized both, it is time to create a hairstyle that reflects only the positives. This also means staying away from the extremes—nothing too short, too long, too light or too dark, Ken says.

The idea to cut hair short as women mature was because long hair tends to "pull" the face down. Cutting hair short was a quick remedy to this problem, although not the only solution. The same can be achieved through layering, which draws the face out and upward, Ken says. We all like an instant facelift!

"There is often a stability related to our 40s which reflects in our personal style," Ken says. "I find this to usually be the most conservative time in a woman's life—a time where she wants an easy style which gives her more time to enjoy life's richness!"

Were these ideals designed with "you" in mind, or are they generic rules that we are supposed to believe apply to all women your age? Wow, that’d be a lot of women with the same haircut!

Ken says he believes that a woman’s personal style evolves and changes as she embraces all that life has to offer her. "I find that many women I meet share many of the same personal goals at similar times in their lives, and I believe this influences their personal style," he says.

No matter what your age, it is most important to stay true to yourself, Ken says. "These are merely suggestions that I have noticed along the way that make my clients feel confident and beautiful. Feeling good about yourself gives you an incomparable glow that comes from the inside.

Summary

Right now Janine has several carefully focused goals. She wants to grow her salon business, nurture the professional development of her staff as well as launching her own line of clip-on hair extensions based on her own work with The Pussycat Dolls over the past several years. Janine's clip-in hair line is currently in development and targeted for late Summer of 2007 release.
