Even after you toil before your mirror, do you often become frustrated with less that fabulous hair styling results?

Why not bust out of your normal hair regime and try going the au natural route? After all, all those hot tools can't be go for the environment, not to mention your delicate strands.

The best way to work up a natural hair treatment plan is to start with an analysis of your basic hair type.

Straight Hair Treatment Tips

If your hair is stick straight

1. Start with a fabulously flattering cut and style ,which works with your hair's natural texture. When tresses are naturally fine and/or thinning, work with your hairdresser to create a haircut maximizing the fullness of your hair. If your hair is naturally straight, select styles that work best with minimal natural hair bend.

2. Limit regular use of highly cleansing shampoo. Consider diluting shampoo so you can focus the cleansing formula directly onto your root area while minimizing contact with the rest of your strands, which have less need for deep cleaning. When possible, cut back on the number of times per week you shampoo.

3. Eliminate your use of cleansing, conditioning or styling products heavily laden with silicones which will weigh down your strands. This is especially true if your hair is also finely textured, thinning or a combination of the two.

When you want to add shine consider the following alternatives to heavy silicones:

  • Finish with a cool/cold final rinse which helps add natural shimmer.
  • Create a detangling/leave-in cocktail. Mix a tiny amount of light leave-in conditioner with a spray detangler. Apply to fingertips and fingerpick through your strands to detangle and lightly coat the strands for shine. Be sure to avoid the roots.
  • Allow hair to air dry whenever possible. Towel blot strands after washing, apply detangling/conditioning cocktail and fingerpick. Allow hair to air dry. If you must finish with a blow dryer, use an ionic dryer or one with a low heat/slow speed to minimize damage to the strands.
  • Finish with a shine enhancer hairspray instead of shine drops or serum. If you must use shine products, use light sprays. Apply sparingly to the fingertips and lightly pick through strands for a hint of shimmer without risk of weighing down the hair.
