Shonda Ervin, artistic director at the haircolorxperts salon at Kenilworth Commons in Charlotte, NC, recently won the company’s first annual International Artistic Competition sponsored by Wella Corporation.

The competition was designed to acknowledge and develop the creative talents of haircolorxperts’ associates, to help each salon focus on recommending creative services and to provide creative opportunities for top hairdressers who want to join the haircolorxperts team.

Shonda who is 26 years old, won an all-expenses-paid, week-long trip for two to Paris where she attended Wella’s International Trend Vision Awards and other educational events.

She brought this education and inspiration back to the salon to share with her haircolorxperts team members and clients.

Shonda first won the district competition, which earned her $500, a trophy and an all-expenses paid trip to the haircolorxperts National Franchisee Convention in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where she competed against six other district winners.

During the finals, she designed a cut, color and style combination that the judges called, “wearable, pretty, technically and artistically creative and accomplished.” The judges were also impressed with Ervin’s professional presentation.

“Winning haircolorxperts’ first annual national convention gives me so much confidence, and the experience and education I gained from the trip to Paris will help me grow in my career and provide even better service to my clients,” says Shonda.

She predicts that for fall, “Soft, wavy hair styles are definitely center stage this season, while cuts are clean but styled with an undone finish. Pastel blondes transition with lowlights. For women who want to go darker all over, warm chocolate infused tones are simply delicious.”
