Best Curly Hair Cut In Dallas – Model Charisse – A great haircut showcasing balayage highlights and low lights.  Hair by Rebecca Leigh – #BlancHairSalon – All Rights Reserved

Luckily I’ve discovered the Best Curly Hair Cut In Dallas which will instantly eliminate many super textured haircut horror stories.

Seriously?  Did I say Dallas, as in Dallas, Texas?

Yes, Dallas is famous for some of the most beautiful blondes on the planet.

Just ask Jessica Simpson, Robin Wright, Renée Zellweger and Morgan Fairchild.  A historically dark hued Selena Gomez went blonde temporarily.

Even the late Blonde Bombshell Jayne Mansfield was from Dallas.

Curly Hair In Dallas, Texas?

Curly hair?  Maybe Dallas isn’t known for textured hair, but it’s as big here as blonde tresses.

Dallas gets very hot, steamy and humid during the late Spring and Summer months.  Just imagine what happens to naturally curly hair in that type of weather.

When I think of superstar curly hair gurus I think of Lorraine Massey, a curly hair pioneer from England.

Or maybe the late John Sahag who reigned in New York as a brilliant dry hair cutter.

John Sahag, who I had the great opportunity to interview before his untimely death, could dry cut any unruly textured hair into a work of art.

Never mind her incedible blonde hue inventions.

Back to her incredible hair cuts on textured hair.

When she told me she did 100% dry cuts, specialized in textured hair as well as long, thick and super curly, I was flabbergasted.

DeAngelo Williams Trading Locks For Braided Pony

DeAngelo Williams With Long Flowing Locks

DeAngelo Williams With Long Flowing Locks

DeAngelo Williams Trading Dreadlocks For Braided Pony

Famous for his flowing dreadlocks, Carolina Panthers tackle DeAngelo Williams has decided his hair is his Achilles heel.  He told the Charlotte Observer that his hair has made him an easy tackle target.   And he’s had enough of the hair hassles.

Williams told the Charlotte Observer he’ll keep his hair in a braided ponytail for the team’s upcoming game against the Houston Texans.  Enough is enough and twice this year Williams has been yanked down and dragged by his locks.  Unfortunately for Williams, using his hair as a means to tackle him is perfectly legal in the NFL.

Although it makes sense that Williams won’t cut his locks, it seems like going with a braided ponytail won’t minimize the tackling all that much unless he tucks the ponytail into his helmet to keep it out of the way of potential opponents.

I can only imagine how painful it was to have his hair constantly being tugged, pulled and yanked by those big strong football players who tend to have a pretty strong grip.  Having my own hair accidentally pulled or tugged hurts like the dickens.  Can you only imagine having it deliberately targeted?  No thanks.

Ironically DeAngelo Williams is just one of a number of NFL players who showcase long flowing locks which extend from underneath their helmets.  It’s become very fashionable to have long locks and being a pro football player.  Unless of course it makes you a regular target for easy tackle.

What do you think?  Should Williams go ahead and cut his locks or try to detract with a tightly braided pony that is tucked out of the way?

How To Curly Hair – Julianna Marguiles

Emmy-winner Julianna Margulies has naturally curly hair.  When she first won the hearts of fans on TV’s ER the lovely brunette wore her hair with super tight ringlets.

Now that she plays an aggressive and ambitious attorney on The Good Wife, her hair is either bone straight or has slight waves.

When Julianna attends awards shows like The Emmy Awards or The Golden Globes she tends to wear her hair pulled up into a variety of sleek twists both on and off screen.

Julianna rocked the 2011 Emmy Red Carpet when she appeared in an eye popping, mouth dropping white Armani prive gown which showed off her amazing figure.  Her ornate gown was strapless which allowed for a variety of up or down hairstyles.

Hairstylist Matthew Monzon created a glamorous Old Hollywood look which some fashion watcher suggested was reminiscent of Veronica Lake.    The hairstyle worked in perfect harmony with her stunning gown. (more…)

How Do You Get Curly Hair

The best way to get curly hair is to be born with it.  Although there has been a Love Your Curls Movement gathering popularity for the past 10+ years, not everyone is going to always love their natural hair texture.  Ultimately everyone should wear their hair however they love it best.

If you were born with curly hair the key is to learn to properly love it and care for it so that you eliminate any known curl challenges such as frizz, fuzz or uncontrollable clumps.

With the proper curl friendly haircuts, products and daily care anyone can have beautiful curls, regardless of their age, sex, ethnic background, color or length of hair.

If you weren’t born with natural texture you can still get curly hair with a variety of options which are listed below:

1.  Start With The Proper Hair Cut

If your natural hair is bone straight, you can still get curly hair with the proper hair cut which should be crated into strategically placed long layers to help your hair initially achieve and then maintain curls.

Long sexy layers are a curly hair secret of Victoria Secret model curls showcased by the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima. (more…)

Tessa And Dallas Get Brazilian Blow Outs On Suburgatory

Tessa On Suburgatory

Tessa On Suburgatory

Tessa And Dallas Get Brazilian Blow Outs On Suburgatory

ABC’s Suburgatory is about a relatively normal father and daughter who move from New York to the dysfunctional  suburbs.

Hip Tessa (Jane Levy) and her father George Altman (Jeremy Sisto) stick out like sore thumbs in Chatswin Township.  The show is often difficult to watch because it seems to unrealistic, but sometimes there are interesting subplots about hair or related topics.

In the “Thanksgiving” episode Tessa is upset because her father George has decided they can’t honor their long held tradition of spending the Holiday in Tessa’s beloved The City going to the Macy’s Day parade then drinking traditional black and white milkshakes.

George obviously feels a little guilty about not taking Tessa to New York and claims to have to work.  He asks Dallas Royce (Cheryl Hines) to take Tessa on a girls day out which results in a trip to the salon.

Dallas who finds Tessa’s naturally textured hair inappropriate for Chatswin Township convinces her, after much cajoling, that if she agrees to a Brazilian Blowout hair straightening treatment Dallas will take Tessa anywhere she wants to go for lunch.  (more…)

Diana-Maria Rivas With Natural Curls

Naturally Curly Haired Diana-Maria Riva In New Latin Comedy

One of my all-time favorite Latino actresses is Diana Maria Riva who was fabulous in the film What Men Want starring Mel Gibson.

Besides her great comedic timing the actress has an amazing head of stunning natural curls which she showcases with pride.  Diana has a very thick head of stunning ringlets which she wears with an array of beautiful highlights and low lights.

Although she told the media it took her a long time to figure out how to work with her own hair, she explained that mousse changed her life in a dramatic way.

Although she works with a variety of hairstylists on set, she does her own hair more often than not to make sure she can wear it full of coils.

Luckily for all Diana’s fans, CBS announced in September that it was reviving a TV comedy starting comedian Rob Schneider playing a man who marries into a tight-knit Mexican family.

Diana Maria Riva plays his mother-in-law and hopefully will be as sassy and fun as she was in the film What Women Want. (more…)

Curly Hair Changes Due To Hormones

Naturally Curly Hairstyle From Goldwell

Naturally Curly Hairstyle From Goldwell

Although it doesn’t happen to everyone, some people with naturally textured hair such as natural waves, curls, coils or kinks may notice that as they get older and their hormones change so does their curls.

Natural curls can also change during or after pregnancy, when taking some types of hormone replacement therapies and even in some cases with birth control pills.

A good friend of mine who just turned 36 and had her first baby a year ago noticed that her previously tight curls had dropped and loosed up since she got pregnant and had her baby.  She hasn’t used chemicals of any kind on her hair because she was pregnant and then didn’t have time to mess with her hair after the baby was born.

Even though she uses a Low Poo cleansing formula, only washes once a week, detangles her curls in the shower, plops her curls and air dries, she is still having curl clumping issues.

Even though she’s tried a myriad of leave-in conditioners, creams, gels, mousses and sprays her roots and ends are straight with only curls forming in the middle of her chin length strands.   Even worse, the more she tried to reform her once glorious curls she finds the products are leaving her hair sticky and crunchy. Katy Perry Loved Super Frizzy Curly Hair

Katy Perry As Evil Queen

Pop icon Katy Perry has become almost as famous for changing her hair style, length and color as she has for her famous marriage to comedian Russell Brand.

Katy has worn her hair raven black, vibrant blue, blonde, ginger and most recently a carefully planned purple.  She’s also worn an array of hairstyles from short bobs to longer waves and curls.

There’s no denying the singer has legions of adoring fans who love her music, her videos and her performances – both live and taped.

She is also the darling of the fashionistas, the Red Carpet papparrazzi as well as being the face and hair of ghd.

Face of GHD

The 26 year old superstar was first  introduced as the face of ghd earlier in 2011.  For her second ghd photo shoot, she stepped up for acclaimed photographer David LaChapelle.

There’s no question that ghd spared no expense to showcase their ghd Scarlet campaign which featured the beauty in a Snow White-inspired shoot highlighting  two art deco hair styling irons just in time for Christmas. (more…)

Curly Hair  How To Do Twirl Curling To Create Ringlets

What is twirl curling?  It’s a styling technique which provides ringlet style definition.

If you have curly hair how to do twirl curling to create ringlets is a topic you likely will benefit from.

Some people call this skip curling instead of twirling, but whether you want to call the technique twirling or skip curling, it’s the same basic technique.

For this curl creating technique, use a curl enhancing cream and a wide tooth comb.

You will need hair which is long enough to twirl around your finger in a rope like manner.   If you like Taylor Swift’s ropey ringlets, try the method below:

Step By Step Instructions For Twirl Curling

1.  Cleanse your hair in lukewarm water with your favorite product for your hair type, texture, condition and length.  Use your desired cleansing method such as full strength shampoo, low poo, diluted shampoo (DS), conditioner only (CO), no poo, water only (WO).
2.  Rinse shampoo well and then gently squeeze out excess water with fingers in an accordion method.
3.  Apply rinse out conditioner from the top of the ears down to the ends.
4.  Use a wide tooth comb or your fingers and detangle from the ends up to the roots.  Work in sections and work slowly.
5. Towel blot to remove excess water.
6.  Apply your desired styling cocktail include leave-in conditioner, defrisant or similar.

To Twirl Curl For Ringlets

1.  Take a section of hair ranging from 1/2″-3″ in diameter.  The larger the section of hair, the looser the finished curl.  The smaller, the tighter.
2.  Apply a curl enhancing cream.  Use comb (or fingers) to distribute cream throughout strand.

For a tighter hold use a gel.  For a very loose curl use a mousse. (more…)
