Friday, April 8th, 2011

Knowledge gained from a BA in Education, amazing artistic talents in hair and makeup, and more than two decades of successful salon ownership have made Sherri Jessee one of the most sought-after educators in the beauty industry.

I had a rare opportunity to catch up with Sherri today where she graciously shared some of her vast wisdom about the hair industry, her long relationship representing Rusk and her goals for the immediate future.

Sherri is charming and very easy to talk to.  She willingly shared details about a wide range of hair care techniques and products, specifically some of the Rusk products and amazing color line. By the end of our phone interview I was very impressed with Sherri’s passion for her work as an educator and her boundless energy.

With work featured in more than forty acclaimed publications including MODERN SALON, COSMOPOLITAN, and OK! Magazines and widely quoted as an industry expert in the international media, Sherri is a recognized source for all things beauty.  The highly respected beauty expert works tirelessly and creates gorgeous results.

Extensive travel to five continents working as a platform artist provides a universal perspective as she educates and inspires others through dynamic educational events, fashion shows, and stunning photo shoots.

Sherri can often be seen working with celebrities, in live TV interviews, videos and charity fundraisers.  Sherri’s work with celebrity Nancy O’Dell includes a video collection, numerous live TV interviews, an infomercial, charity events, a national ad campaign and a magazine Cover shoot!

Dress Up Games And Trends Hit Mainstream

Monday, August 9th, 2010

As a little girl I had a chest full of paper dolls I would dress up in a range of outfits.  I also had my own dress up closet with my mom and aunt’s discarded high heels, dresses and costume jewelry.

My friends in the South St. Louis neighborhood (Our Lady Of Sorrows Parish) where I grew up would put on little impromptu plays where we would dress up in our hodgepodge of home-grown costumes.

If truth be told my love of writing started with the dress up plays since I was drafted to write the various plots and scripts.  Of course they were very crude back then because I was only 8 years old, but it fueled my interest for penning different scenarios and characters.

Playing Real Dress Up

Once we grew out of our little backyard plays, paper dolls and mom’s high heels we graduated to a variety of dolls.  By the time we were in high school we dress up in costumes for the yearly plays.

Dressing up is often an important part of the growth process for little girls who grow up to dress up in prom gowns and the ultimate fantasy outfit, the wedding gown.  Of course dressing up always requires thought towards the make-up, accessories and hairstyles which work in harmony with the costumes.

Little boys would also dress up in pretend pirate costumes or similar. (more…)

InStyle Wedding Magazine Folding In December 2009

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Time Inc. Folding InStyle Weddings

It has been confirmed by The Gawker that Time Inc. is folding Instyle Weddings, a quarterly publication. The wedding magazine category is rough these days due to the large number of wedding magazines and the challenged economy.

Brides have been turning more towards free Internet sites for their bridal fixes.

The long term magazine’s closure comes upon the heels of a round of employee layoffs. Earlier this month, Time Inc. began laying off roughly 500 staffers in a reorg that was done to save $100 million costs.

InStyle Wedding’s final issue hits newsstands on Dec. 25, and will be available until March 2009.  InStyle will continue to publish other similar types of spinoff magazines, but will abandon the weddings theme. (more…)

Bridal Hair Business Building Tips

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Whether you’re a hairdresser who has a special knack for weaving stunning hairstyles for the blushing bride and her wedding party or you want to partner with a bridal hair expert to offer related bridal hair services (custom headpieces, fresh flowers for the nuptial tresses or special order bridal hair accessories) you have to market your expertise to the bride-to-be and her inner circle.

(Image from NBC’s TV Show – “The Wedding” Episode 110 – Pictured: (l-r) Kyle Bornheimer as Sam, Erinn Hayes as Mel – NBC Photo: Trae Patton – Monday, November 24 on CBS – All Rights Reserved).

Keep in mind that happy brides will tell all of their friends about your stunning bridal hair styling skills.  So will their mothers and attendants.  Good bridal hairdressers can surprisingly be hard to find.
