Since HairBoutique.com was first founded in the mid 1990s and officially launched in 1997, we have always had special charities we supported.
While many were hair or beauty related, our current special non-profit charity, the Bob Ebert Life Scholarship has a much deeper meaning for me.
Cindy Menne Ebert Stahl
Bob Ebert's incredibly lovely mother, Cindy Menne Ebert Stahl is very dear to me.
It's hard for me to put into words how much her friendship meant to me during a difficult time in my life back in St. Louis.
I first met Cindy at Blue Cross Hospital Services in St. Louis, Missouri where I was employed for four years.
My direct boss, Gene Dann, was also Cindy's. As a result of our joint boss, our desks were adjacent to each other.
Initially I admired Cindy, who is very beautiful, for her sassy attitude, head of exploding curls and fabulous sense of humor.
As I got to really know her, I admired her for her big heart, never ending kindness and endless devotion to her family and friends.
Cindy is one of the best people I have met during this life journey.Dating A Bald Guy
I loved my time at Blue Cross and working with Cindy every day.
During that time, I met and married, my late husband Michael.
Although he was also blessed with thick, glossy natural curls, a misguided visit to a newly minted barber resulted in a mostly shaved head.
I was so horrified by the loss of his curls, I started calling him "my boyfriend - the bald guy".
Cindy was delighted by my apt description of my guy and joined me in referring to my eventual husband as "the bald guy" to co-workers.
Imagine the shock and surprise at a future social event some months when I arrived with my boyfriend sporting a full head of thick, glossy, grown out curls.
It was a very funny experience. One I shall never forget.
Losing Touch With A Dear Friend
Besides our unified boyfriend terminology, Cindy and I became friends outside of work. I cherished any time I spent with her.
Eventually I married my curly haired guy, leaving Blue Cross to move to Dallas, Texas.
Short afterwards, Cindy married and moved to Michigan. She eventually had her son Bob and sent me lovely photos of her adorable little boy.
Establishment Of The Bob Ebert Life Scholarship
Sadly, we lost touch over the years until recently, when I discovered the tragic loss of her beloved son Bob in 2009, to suicide.
During our reconnection, which felt like we talked just a few days ago instead of years, Cindy told me about the amazing work her son's non-profit foundation is doing.
Since HairBoutique loves to support causes which help young people seeking any type of education, the Bob Ebert Life Scholarship foundation is wonderful cause to embrace.
