The new shag is all the rage. In fact, it's so hot that it was featured on NBC's Today complete with three model makeovers showcasing how to incorporate the revised haircut into a range of hair types, textures and lengths.
Celebrity hair colorist Louis Licari explained the popularity of the new hair cut as being linked to it's ease of styling. When cut properly, the layered hairdo can literally be styled with a bit of finger picking and tousling.
What's the different between the 2011 version of the shag and the shags of the 196os and 1970s? The old shags had short layered fronts with longer back sections, including a mullet like tail. The 2011 shag has much longer layers incorporated throughout the top and front of the hair. The long hair tail is long gone.

Although it's possible to adopt the new shag with a little bit of length around the collarbone, for the most part the new shag ends somewhere between the bottom of the ear lobe and the chin. It definitely trends shorter than longer.
If you;re lusting over the new shag which is being adopted by a range of models and celebrities, you can try it on without any commitment to the scissors. How? Pop on a beautiful wig and give the new haircut an instant tryout.
You may decide you love it and will schedule a session with your favorite hairdresser. Or you may decide that it's not the best hairstyle for you, but fun every once in awhile. Either way, your options remain completely open.
