Dr. Walter Bishop Rocks Out In His Fringe Lab On Fox TV

In the November 2-8, 2009 issue of TV Guide Magazine there was a blurb about the popular sophomore sci-fi, crime drama, Fringe, which is often sprinkled with the wild wackiness of Dr. Walter Bishop played fantastically by John Noble.

As Dr. Walter Bishop he keeps a cow in his mad scientist lab, has weird food cravings and listens to a range of music from emotion packed opera to rock, soul and jazz.

Although not immediately obvious to some of the clueless like me, after a few episodes I was able to connect the dots and realize that Walter, my favorite character, had tied the music he was listening to with the cases he was frantically studying.  Indeed, TV Guide confirmed my suspicions and explained that the genius scientist complete with his patient lab assistant utilizes music to help the viewers pick up clues to the mysteries unfolding in each episode.

TV Guide interviewed exec producer Jeff Pinkner who confirmed "the well-chosen soundtrack contains clues about the show's mysterious Pattern."  Hence the recent Mario Lanza as Walter tried to solve a complex formula involving nefarious shadows which ultimately turned victims into piles of sand.  As he manically wrote on a series of boards in his lab Walter listened to opera.  Ahhhh, now I see why.

The good news for the fans of this quirky but wildly entertaining show?  The soundtrack from Walter's lab may soon be available on iTunes.  The other good word?  Even in a tough timeslot the show is thriving and winning kudos from critics and fans alike.  Thank god.  I would be so sad to see Fringe fall into the shark jumped waters of dead TV series with great promise but unlikely time slots.
