Michelle Obama's Hairdresser Names His Faux Haircut

The hairstyle has been around Hollywood for years although there has never been an official name for it.  Some called it the Faux Haircut.  Others called it a Hair Tuck.

What is it?  When celebrities work on creating a media buzz by showing up on the Red Carpet with a sudden shorter hairstyle.  Jessica Simpson has done as have many other celebs.  Celebrity Hairdresser Ken Paves is famous for creating sudden short hairstyles out of previously medium or longer lengths.

A few days ago Michelle Obama showed up at a country music event at the White House with her hair coiffed in such as way as to create an instant media buzz that the First Lady "cut her hair" short.

When questioned about the hairstyle her hairdresser Johnny Wright told the media that he did not use scissors to create Obama's new hairstyle.  Instead he gave her a "tuck up."

Hmmm a tuck up?  What's that you ask?  He explained his version of the Tuck-Up is when he takes the hair and gathers it all in the back and twists it and then pulls it up and tucks.

He also does an Up-Tuck which he explains is like when you're tucking something in.  He explained that an Up-Tuck is when he positions a small ponytail somewhere on the head and then tucks the rest of the hair up under the pony.

Ahhhh.  So now the famous hairstyles have names - The Tuck Up and the Up Tuck.

Daily Hair Tip
Give short hair tousled looks by scrunching or running fingers through wet hair as it air dries. Use blowdryer on low setting for faster results.
