Keratin Straightening is basically Brazilian Hair Straightening without the dangerous formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals. When reports were released about the dangers to consumers of the Brazilian method because of the noxious fumes, hairdresser Peter Coppola of Boca Raton Florida created his own version known as Keratin Complex Hair Therapy.

In essence, Keratin Complex Hair Therapy produces similar results to Brazilian Hair Straightening for three to five months without the toxic dangers.

The Keratin hair-straightening method is taking the professional hair world by storm. Besides being available at the Peter Coppola Salon in Boca Raton, Florida, it has recently become available at some of the biggest names in the industry includes Sally Hershberger, Umberto of Beverly Hills, Mario Tricoci Salons and John Donato in Canada.

Thousands of salons around the world have added Keratin Straightening to their menus and it is believed to be safe, effective and an innovative smoothing system.

The Keratin Complex Hair Therapy process takes an average of 2-3 hours for completion and costs between $350 to $600 depending on the length and thickness of the hair. It is deemed safe for all ages, including children. The results wash out over time and usually are completely removed from the hair after 3-5 months depending on how the hair grows.

The straightening system works for women and men of all ages and ethnicities. It is considered to be must less complicated than other straightening systems since it takes less time compared to other straightening systems.

The Keratin Complex Hair Therapy is a Patent Pending formulation. It is designed to restructure the hair and reduce blow dry time. It is also designed to make hair more manageable.

How Keratin Complex Hair Therapy Is Applied

Hair is first washed in lukewarm water and cleansed with a deep cleansing shampoo. Depending upon the amount of build-up on the hair the hair may be shampooed more than one time.

After the cleansing is completed the hair is rinsed completely. The hair is then carefully detangled with a wide tooth comb and dried with a blow dryer.

The newly dried hair is separated into four or more equal sections. Starting at the nape of the neck the Keratin Complex Hair Therapy is applied to each individual section with hands that are protected by rubber gloves. The Keratin product will only slightly dampen the hair.

The product is applied equally through all the sections starting approximately 1 inch from the scalp. The product is spread over the hair lengthwise. To activate the Keratin product, each section of hair is combed for five minutes. The product is left on the hair for approximately 15 minutes.

The hair is then blotted dry. After the hair is superficially dried, each of the four sections are again brushed through to redistribute the Keratin. A hot ceramic hair straightening iron set at 450 degrees is run through each of the individual sections approximately 8 times. The purpose of the hot iron is to seal the Keratin into the hair. This smoothes the cuticle leaving hair frizz free.

The key to successful Keratin straightening is making sure the hair is brushed well and the hot ceramic straightening iron is run through the hair properly. After the application process has been completed, the hair is left to set for approximately 60 minutes. The hair is rinsed well with cold water. All excess water is removed. A Neutralizer is applied to all of the hair and the hair is gently massaged for approximately 5 minutes. After 5 minutes the hair is again rinsed with cold water.

The hair is towel blotted, blow dried with a flat brush and styled into a newly straightened look.

After Keratin Treatment Notes

After processing, hair can not be shampooed 3 days. The effects last three to five months and “wear out” leaving no line of demarcation. It can be used on color treated hair and works on all textures.
