Asymmetric Hairstyle

Hair by Lucie Doughty & Maureen McCarthy

All Rights Reserved

Paul Mitchell Editorial Director Lucie Doughty and Master Associate Maureen McCarthy recently joined forces and played with hair asymmetry to create a series of rolls, buns or any related hair shape which can be off-set on the head.

This Asymmetric Hair Shape was inspired by the Spring 09 shows of designers Carolina Herrera and Philip Lim 3.1, embodying more of an avant-garde Warhol feel.

Step By Step - How To

1. Prep naturally fine, color-treated hair while damp with Paul Mitchell Thicken Up® to increase texture and body.

2. Blow-dry with a paddle brush to smooth the cuticle.

3. Section hair into 3 main sections: fringe area, triangle section on top and the back section.

4. Section out the fringe and top sections first, then brush all the hair back off the face and into a high ponytail at the back of the head.

5. Twist the ponytail so that the ends face towards the top of the head; secure into place.

6. Lightly back-brush ends and spray with Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Finishing Spray®.

7. Push the fringe into place using Paul Mitchell 413 Sculpting Brush and spray Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Finishing Spray® to hold.

10. On the top, lightly back-brush and mold into shape to create a bow effect using Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Finishing Spray®.

An asymmetric hairstyle like the one created above offers a fresh and unique new take. The hairstyle is easy to create but offers a new twist on an old look.
