These days, many fashion-conscious hair clients want to create the latest and greatest thing.

Hair color is part of that - people want looks that help them to stand out, to express their own individual style.

In this article Paul Mitchell Top Artists forecast Spring/Summer hair color fashions so that Paul Mitchell professionals can match the season's hottest trends for their clients.

Custom Hair Color

"A lot of younger clients are looking for strong dimensional color that really stands out."

In addition "they want a definite commitment to a given color - a color that is often the opposite of their base color - and they want this color strategically place in an obvious, but dimensional manner for an edgy effect," explains Artistic Director for Paul Mitchell the color Linda Yodice.

On these types of clients Linda recommends Paul Mitchell professionals "use a Block Color technique with separated color placement such as Vertical Straps, and work outside the client's family of color."

Linda suggests "strategically placing the Strap or array of Straps on the head to really call attention to the individual section or sections."

Dark And Dramatic

"Celebrity clients are going for deeper, darker colors-rich chocolates and deep browns," explains celebrity color artist, Paul Mitchell Premier Associate and NAHA Hair colorist of the Year for 2003, Lucie Doughty. She recommends that Paul Mitchell professionals "try a single process application using new colors from Paul Mitchell the color.

Lucie suggests "3G and 5G are great choices to create the resonant, dramatic tones you see among actresses like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Liv Tyler and Demi Moore."

Au Natural

"People are now moving away from extreme like Gwen Stefani's platinum color to softer, more natural looks," explains Lucie.

"Paul Mitchell the color's new 7WB and 7CB produce great natural-looking, sandy tones-7WB is a little more golden and 7CB produces a more muted effect." Or, colorists can choose a multi-dimensional approach.

According to Linda Yodice, "Blended Block Color applications, working within the client's own family of color (using light, medium and dark shades), give both the Paul Mitchell professional and their client room to play while producing a very natural-looking, in fact, "better-than-natural" effect.

Spring Forward

"Clients want bright, fun, vibrant hair that shines in the sun," explains Paul Mitchell Master Associate and Artistic Director for A Robert Cromeans Salon, Stephanie Kocielski. "Use PM SHINES translucent demi-permanent color applied over natural or colored hair for deep conditioned shine.

Pick your formula of choice or apply a "Top Coat" - a quick and easy upgrade using Clear Shine."

All 20 intermixable, ammonia-free colors contain the Intense Hydrating Complex (IHC) that penetrates deep into the hair shaft to infuse moisture and meadowfoam seed extract to intensify shine.

Summary

Paul Mitchell recommends that Paul Mitchell professionals develop Paul Mitchell - The Color Bar. This color bar presents a professional and organized hair coloring location so that clients have the unique opportunity to witness and appreciate the art and science of color formulation; in so doing, it takes hair color our of the kitchen and puts it back into the professional salon.
