As a hair addict, I watch hair on men, women, children and babies. Whether I am attending a fashion show, hanging out in an airport or attending a wedding you can be sure that I am eyeballing all the hair.

Recently I attended the wedding of a dear friend, a second time bride who was marrying her Prince Charming. The wedding was an elaborate affair with a church ceremony and a spectacular reception.

I was not well acquainted with the groom but was mesmerized by his perfectly polished appearance. Prince Charming was very handsome in his tuxedo and definitely well coiffed and had obviously indulged in a manicure and facial. I was impressed.

Wearing a classic tuxedo tailored to fit his body he wore his dark hair sprinkled with silver in a classic man's haircut cut to precision. His skin had a slight tan and was freshly shaven.

While beautiful brides still play a major part in the current wedding rituals, grooms are playing a much bigger role. Some experts believe that the brief appearance of "metrosexuals" a few years back have turned the tide away from just the bride to the bride and her groom.

Groom's Attire - Tuxedo Or Suit?

The groom's attire, in many weddings, is no longer just an accessory to the bride's gown. Today's groom has taken back part of the wedding. Not only are groom's indulging in pre-nuptial pampering that used to belong only to the brides, but they are taking a more aggressive role in selecting their wedding attire.

A stylist groom whose carefully cultivated wedding look can definitely match his bride.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule but overall it's fair to say that most grooms strive to look their very best on their special day. The days of a quick trip to the tuxedo store and the barbershop have given way to a new attitude.

Most grooms think "tuxedo" they consider their wedding attire. There are so many talented menswear designers in the market that a tuxedo doesn't have to be the required selection.

An optionally choice to the traditional tux might be a custom tailored suit in monochromatic shades of blue or brown with an elegant cut that provides a spectacular defining edge. The tux can be bypassed, especially for weddings that take place before 5:00 pm. Of course the ultimate chose of attire should be keyed to how formal the event and the wedding.

If a custom tailored suit is selected, the rest of the groomsmen and men of the wedding party can also wear suits. A great suit can be easily dressed up or down depending on the selection of the shirt and tie.

A finely stitched dress shirt and a fabulous silk tie can make a custom suit even more stunning than a tuxedo. You might even add a touch of elegance with a matching pocket handkerchief.

If you'd like to keep that "bridal" look, opt for a satin shirt and matching tie in ivory or white. Because, as a rule, tuxedos are not worn before 5 p.m., a morning suit or finely tailored dress suit are perfectly acceptable attire for morning or afternoon weddings.

Tails are not appropriate for every size and build. If your soon-to-be husband is a bit on the short and stocky side, tails may give him that "penguin" look.

The same logic holds true for accessories. Traditional neckties and full back vests are not only comfortable and stylish for all male members of the wedding party, they are enjoying a wonderful resurgence in special event attire. If you are having a formal wedding, make certain the attire your groom chooses is in perfect concert with the type of event you are hosting. For a warm weather wedding, a white or ivory dinner jacket is a classic look on any man. For ultra-formal events, white ties and tails are appropriate.

Shave & Shower

The days of the groom simply shaving, showering and dabbing on some aftershave before his wedding are long gone.

There is no reason why a groom shouldn't pamper himself in preparation for his wedding. Brides go to great lengths to make sure that they look and feel their absolute best.

Today's groom is expected to be as groomed as his lovely bride.

Attitude is the first stop on the road to the making of a handsome groom.

While you may appreciate your man's rugged good looks, his perception of himself needs to be reinforced.

The bride and groom should be totally complementary in their attire and both should be beautifully dressed. They should be harmonized and wonderfully adorned.

Having the proper mindset is the first step towards the bride and groom finding total harmony in their special look.

Groom's Attire - Footwear

Most brides obsess about their footwear even though many times the only person that will see her shoes is her groom.

For your wedding attire why not splurge on a really well made pair of leather shoes? Accessories such as socks, cufflinks, and tie bars should not be overlooked. They add that elegant touch that is the hallmark of a well-dressed man.

Appearance

A shower and a shave is the extent of the grooming plan for most men. But why not include your man in your "countdown to gorgeous" regimen?

He can benefit from facials, soothing saunas, relaxing massages and the decadent experience of a good manicure and pedicure, too. If he's never had any of these services, introduce them to him slowly, one at a time.

Many salons and spas offer packages geared towards men. Book in advance, and enjoy manicure and massage services together. What a wonderful way to share "connecting time" with your beloved.

Summary

When you greet your beautiful bride on The Very Special Day, the inner beauty and love you share as kindred spirits will be enhanced by the outer glow you've nurtured and created together.

Daily Hair Tip
Rough fingertails can rip and tear delicate hair. Always keep your nails smooth if you use your hands or fingers to style your hair.
