Emmy Winning Hair 2002

The entire group of Friends showed up in their award show finest to watch both their series and Jennifer Aniston snag an Emmy statuette. Jennifer won for outstanding lead actress for her role as Rachel Green while the Friends series won as Best Comedy Series. Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry were nominated as Best Actors in a Comedy Series but lost to Ray Romano. (Photo Copyright 2002 NBC, Inc. All rights reserved).

The entire group was beautifully tressed with Jennifer letting her finely highlighted natural waves flow against her shoulders in a messy but sexy do. Whether you love her or hate her, believe all the rumors about what she is really like, you have to agree that Ms. Aniston has award winning hair. (Photo Copyright 2002 NBC, Inc. Lisa Kudrow had on a gorgeous strapless amethyst colored gown with her trademark blonde hair pulled back off her face. Courtney Cox had her dark hair pulled up into a soft updo.

Although basic Hollywood black was still in full view as demonstrated by Best Actress in a Comedy nominee Debra Messing (Will And Grace), Stockard Channing and Doris Roberts, many of the stars and celebrities pulled out all the stops gliding down the red carpet in brightly colored gowns that ranged from red to beautiful shades of violet and purple.

Although the weather was unseasonably hot, the flaming temperatures did not stop the celebrities from dressing in their finest. The stars broke out their splendid gowns for the 2002 awards. Last year's Emmy's fashions were somber and businesslike occurring shortly after September 11th.

One of the personal favorites, Laura Linney, adopted a Jenniferisque do and looked beautiful. The long wavy style was a perfect compliment for her face and gave her a soft and elegant look. Speaking of Messing, she was decked out in a daring but gorgeous Michael Kors black gown. The vampish frock had intricate lace that crisscrossed beginning at her midriff and ending way down there in both the front and back. Messing posed for the cameras (photo to the side - Copyright NBC - 2002) and confessed in a Fashion Police type of interview with the famous Ms. Rivers that her beautiful black shoes were her "dominatrix Manolo Blahniks." I am sure Carrie on Sex And The City would have approved of her Manolos for sure.

And speaking of vampish, the normally elegant and classy Ms. Stockard Channing's tresses looked a tad too dark and a little dreary for her complexion.

Channing was a big winner with two Emmys for her roles as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The West Wing and Outstanding Supporting Actress for The Matthew Shepard Story. The winning Channing (Photograph above - Copyright NBC - 2002) lugged two statuettes home for her mantel.

Appearing a bit too ghoulish in her coal black, shoulder length, choppy bob, Channing's hair drained her face of color in typical vampire fashion. When asked about her look, Channing proudly announced that she had done her own hair for the event.

Winning another statuette as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Everyone Loves Raymond) Doris Roberts was also attired in celebrity black. Her simple but elegant gown combined with her snow white, lightly curled locks, were a winning combination for the still gorgeous 72 year old.

One thing you have to say about Doris, she takes great care of herself and always looks very well coifed and made up. The Emmys were no exception. Doris always selects hairstyles that falter her face and age.

A Emmy winner that shocked many was The Shield's Michael Chiklis who took home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series statue. Looking dapper and trim in a Hugo Boss tuxedo the star had limited strand stress with his closely shaved chrome dome.

Chilklis who told the press to call him "Chick" because there were already "too many Michaels" commented that the heat of the evening was definitely an experience. I'm sure if you asked him now, Chiklis would agree that a few hours of heat were worth the statue he took home.

Other noteworthy hair appearances were made by the chic Allison Janney who wowed in a red dress as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role on The West Wing. Janney dark blonde strands were polished to perfection and her face was set off by a smooth sweep of bangs that drew attention to her eyes. Worn to her shoulder, Janney's hair was slightly flipped to absolute perfection.

Other great locks included the blonde do worn by Frasier's Jean Smart, Wendy Malik's curvy brunette bob and West Wing's Janel Moloney who complimented her midnight blue gown with a sleek updo.

Mrs. Gelsey Grammer, Camille, wore a stunning gown. Her hair was coiffed in a side part and worn in a very sleek and straight style. (Photograph - Copyright NBC - 2002)

Even the guys had great looking dos. West Wing's controversial Rob Lowe appeared in a short but fashionable chop. Jean Smart's new co-star on The In-Laws, Dennis Farina, gave new meaning to "silver fox. Even host Conan O'Brien's wavy red locks were neatly combed into place.

All in all, it was a great hair watcher's award show.
