IntroductionWell, here I go again--selflessly sacrificing my own hair to bring you the goods on yet another mousse. Now do not be put off by the word "caviar" in the title--I can assure you that there are no discernable fish eggs in this product. Every so often, I ditch my old standbys for my Bed Head 'do, and try out mousses. Mousses by their nature give a completely different look, even to a spiky look like mine. The overall effect is softer, but the hold is good, and you don't get that sticky feeling when you run your hands through your hair. Although I have never had long hair myself, I can't speak to the effectiveness of mousse on it, but for short and medium length hair, it's great. The "age-free protectant" part of the name comes from the fact that it contains the essential omega-3 fatty acids found in caviar (hence, the caviar extract in the ingredients). As we age, we tend to lose these fatty acids, which cause our hair to become dull and lusterless. The ingredients in Alterna Enzymetherapy Caviar Age-Free Protectant Mousse help bring back shine and softness, plus help protect hair from the adverse effects of our environment and the aging process. UsageYou don't need all that much product to do the job. As with most mousses, the can is pressurized, so shake it first, then squeeze out a dot or so on your palm. As it comes in contact with air, the "dot" expands, so if you put a lot of it in your palm, you'll end up with a double handful! Distribute the product throughout freshly washed and towel-dried hair. You can either let it air-dry as I do, or use a blow-dryer.
PackagingAlterna Enzymetherapy Caviar Age-Free Protectant Mousse comes in an attractive rich brown can with gold lettering. (Unlike a lot of products I've tried in the past, this can actually looks quite spiffy in my bathroom.) FragranceI know what you're thinking--it's going to smell fishy, right? Nope. The mousse has a nice, clean scent, faintly perfumed. It makes hair smell clean, but does not leave an overpowering fragrance. How I Tested The ProductAfter shampooing my hair, I applied the mousse to towel-dried hair. Since my own hair is pretty short, I didn't need a whole lot of product. The mousse disperses nicely throughout the hair, and I was able to finger-style it and just let it air-dry. I tried it a few days later, only this time after applying it, I used my blow-dryer (The Terminator) to create a softer, smoother style. My hair came out looking darn good, and I found that it held the style all day with no "droopage." IngredientsWater, polyquaternium II, PVP/VA copolymer, isobutane, propane, caviar extract, dimethicone copolyol, PEG-20 almond glycerides, panetheol, benzophenone 3, propylene glycol, octyl methoxycinnamate, lauramide DEA, polysorbate 80, DMDM hydantoin, parfum. ConclusionI am not usually a fan of mousses because of my short and spiky hairstyle, but I have to say that this is a great product which actually does what it says. My hair felt softer, and I noticed a lot of shine when I used it. Jane's RatingOn my own scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I give Alterna Enzymetherapy Caviar Age-Free Protectant Mousse an 8.5. |
