Twisted Elegance
John Paul Mitchell Systems
Date: 1/5/2003, 11/13/2005

Introduction

This gorgeous twisted elegant style (shown to side) is perfect for any special hair event from a Winter Wedding, cocktail party or the prom.

This beautiful updo was created by Paul Mitchell Master Associate Melissa Jaqua on a blonde model with medium length coarse hair.  This look can work for anyone with naturally curly or wavy hair.

Melissa prepped the model with Refining Shampoo and Refining Conditioner to set the foundation for this classy look.  She then applied Enhancing Foam to wet hair for control with some maintenance of texture.  Next Melissa curled the model's hair with a curling iron using Firm Finishing Spray™ for shine and hold.

After curling, Melissa ran her fingers loosely through each curl, applying more Firm finishing Spray, to separate and define.

Styling Instructions

Melissa started at the top section of the head.  She took a one-inch section of hair and starting from the front hairline, twisted this individual section with tension (so it still hugged the head) as she pulled it into a larger twist - as if braiding.  Melissa continued this twisting process (alternating left and right and checking for balance) until she reached the lower occipital, at which point she secured the twist with a single bobby pin.

She then backcombed the loose hair with her fingers and Finishing Spray.  To add shine and hold, Melissa mixed Firm Finishing Spray over the completed style.

Optional Accessories

For 2003 romance, glamour and glitz are in.  Add high sparkle hair jewels or tiny glitter headbands around the crown.  Experiment with a stunning filigree barrette placed along either side of the face.  Add spray glitter or glitter gel to individual strands for extra wattage.
