Combat Hair Frizz - Instant Tips For All Frizzy Hair Types From Curly To Straight

Instant Tips to Lose Hair Frizz

Summertime is one of the prime times for frizz to plague hair due to the constant fluctuations in heat, humidity and sweating which can migrate from the skin to the tresses.

Listed below are some of the most common tips for losing frizz before it wrecks havoc with your hairstyle:

1.  Start with a frizz fighting hairstyle.  If your hair naturally tends to frizz discuss options for containing it naturally through your haircut.  Get a professional frizz fighting cut and then keep it well maintained.

2.  Allow natural moisture from your scalp and strands to help combat frizz which is often the result of parched tresses.  During high frizz months back off daily or even every other day cleanse cycles.  Try to extend your hair washing to once or twice a week.

3.   Block frizz formation by glooping rinse-out conditioner onto damp (gentle squeeze excess water from strands) tresses in the shower.  Use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to gently distribute rinse-out conditioner completely through strands to help integrate the smoothing properties into frizz prone hair.

4.  Always towel blot newly cleansed hair with special hair towels such as microfiber options.  If microfiber is out of your budget use soft towels but avoid rough ones or terrycloth which can ruffle delicate hair strands, especially when they are wet.

5.  When appropriate either air dry or use a long finger diffuser (for naturally curly, wavy or kinky curls) to encourage natural texture.  If hair is stick straight consider wet bunning it to add natural curve but allow strands to dry without heat which can encourage frizz.  Remember to touch your hair as little as possible while drying to minimize frizz.  This is especially true of people with naturally curly, kinky or wavy hair.

6.  Back away from hot irons and curls.  If you want to build in texture consider a wet set with a hard or soft bonnet hairdryer.  Play with rag rollers (Conair has a fabulous set or make your own) and smooth rollers which won't tangle strands or encourage fuzziness.

7.  Avoid frizz nightmares by sleeping on a silk, satin or similar pillowcase.  If they are too slippery for your taste consider a silk, satin or similar nightcap.  Make sure hair is not allowed to flow free on scratchy pillowcases or sheets which ruffle the cuticle and encourage dryness and thus frizz.

8. Ban your brush.  If you must resort to using one, only use for quick styling.  It's always preferable to use a wide tooth comb, pick or apply a light cream to your fingertips and rake through your hair for a better detangling experience and less frizz potential.

9.  Speaking of styling - always take the time to try different styling products which work best for your hair type, texture and current condition.

Just because a celebrity with similar hair to yours recommends a certain product, keep in mind that the celeb has access 24/7 to top hairdressers and may have hair in a different condition than yours.  Always be true to your own hair.  Never be pressured by anyone to wear hair in any texture, length or style but the style you love for yourself.

10.  Keep a pomade or hair cream handy for ongoing touchups.  Minimize use of serums or other styling products which leave hair feeling overmoisturized or oily.

11.  Always have a ready supply of fun hair accessories - headbands, hair clips and pretty clip-in hair flowers ready to adorn your hair.  If frizz seems to be winning, apply a light film of your favorite hair cream, wrap into a quick bun, twist or knot and pop on that cute flower.

Viola.  Frizz is not at your mercy.
