Two 12 Year Old Boys Allegedly Dropped Cart On New York Mother

Marion Salmon Hedges, a 47-year-old mother of two, was out in East Harlam, shopping for Halloween candy for underprivileged children on Sunday.

She was with her 14-year-old son. The New York Daily News reported that Hedges, described as a wealthy Manhatten real-estate agent, is a volunteer at the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center and also very active in her church.

According to reports from the New York Post, Hedges was walking outside a Target store with her son when two 12-year-old boys allegedly dropped a shopping cart four stories and struck Hedges in the head.

The New York Post also reported that Gaurav Patel and his wife, Susan Mahoney, witnessed Hedges being struck in the head and heard her young son screaming. Patel sprung into action and performed chest compressions on Hedges who was in cardiac arrest. After Patel worked on her, she became responsive.

An emergency response team transported the real-estate agent to Harlem Hospital where she remains in a medically-induced coma. The husband of Hedges told the Post, “it’s still too early to tell with neurological issues,” he told the newspaper. (more…)

Starbucks Foils My Iced Tea Addiction

Darlene Quinn, Long Beach-based Author and Journalist as well as a former senior executive with the Bullocks Wilshire department store chain recently wrote an article on Bulldog Reporter about the decline of brand loyalty. Quinn pointed out that what she’s seeing in the marketplace aren’t encouraging for some of America’s oldest brands.

“Some of our most recognized and best-loved brands are falling victim to an economy in which price is the paramount concern for consumers,” said Quinn, author of “Webs of Fate,” a novel about the retail fashion industry from Greenleaf Book Group. “We’ve ended the era of the brand-loyal consumer, and entered the age of low prices.”

While I agree with Quinn about the death of brand loyalty, I am one of those old-fashioned consumers who still have fierce brand loyalty. Especially when it’s deserved.

My Most Obsessive Brand Loyalty Is To Starbucks

My most obsessive brand loyalty is to Starbucks. I’m one of their long time customers who never lingers in the store preventing others from finding a seat. I also gift everyone I can think of with Starbucks cards for their birthdays or special events. (more…)

Bridezilla Victims – Just Say No To Narcissim

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Although Kate Middleton did not appear to be a textbook case Bridezilla when she recently married her Prince William, the British are famous for sweeping all kinds of scandals under the rug.

Who knows what really went on behind the scenes. While anything’s possible, it seems hard to imagine that such a poised and polished young lady like Kate would have acted remotely like a modern day bride from hell.

In America we not only turn what has become a psychiatric disorder into a popular reality TV series such as WE’s Bridezillas we future brides brawl, bully and battle with everyone from their future husbands and in-laws to the wedding hairstylist, minister, bridesmaids and wedding planners.

In all fairness the Bridezilla may also spawn the manipulative mother of the bride who tries to make everyone do what her daughter wants, the boorish groom with the backbone of a jellyfish who can’t stand up to his bride along with a related cast of less than flattering characters.

On TV’s Chuck the recent bride played by Yvonne Strahovski was too busy being a spy to show any bad bridal behaviors. However, Chuck’s mother played by Linda Hamilton stepped up to the plate to become a manipulative future mother-in-law. As a result Chuck struggled as the prospective groom to maintain peace between the two most important women in his life.

And speaking of Wedding Planners, the movie about the people truly behind the scenes of a planning a wedding starring Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey and Bridgette Wilson didn’t receive rave reviews from critics, but even back in 2001 the Bridezilla was alive and well, although tame by 2011’s comparisons.

Note: The top 25 wedding movies of all times offers many examples of Bridezillas and their related cast of characters.

Although it’s hard to pinpoint the beginning of the modern version of the Bridezilla, experts often define a Bridezilla as suffering from situational narcissim. This is a recently acquired psychiatric disorder which is characterized by grandiosity, overall lack of empathy, rage and general bad behavior.

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

Actor Eric Stonestreet who plays the lovable Cameron on ABC’s Modern Family stopped by to see Ellen in Orlando at Universal Park.

Ellen likes to take her show on the road and being a huge roller coaster enthusiast, what better place to go than to Orlando where some of the best rides in the world exist? This season is Ellen’s fifth year visiting Universal.

Eric arrived on Ellen’s big outdoor stage wearing shades to protect against the blistering Florida sunshine and a full tan suit complete with a striped long sleeve shirt.

He danced out onto the stage and waved at all the fans. Ellen teased him about his long sleeve jacket and shirt by saving “I see you dressed for Florida weather.” The actor agreed “yes, yes, yes, just shy of flannel.”

Ellen noted “you look really handsome but you have to be really hot.” Eric “um, I’m sweltering underneath.” Eric then shared about the rides he rode on and said “oh my gosh aren’t the rides here incredible?”

Why Attention Deficit Disorder Doesn’t Have to Be a Prison

Why Attention Deficit Disorder Doesn’t Have to Be a Prison
Advocate and ADD Patient Reveals Secrets to Overcoming Diagnosis

Robert Bernardo knows the stigma of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and he wouldn’t wish it on his worst enemy.

What’s worse is that the numbers of children being diagnosed are rising at an unprecedented rate. According to the Centers for Disease Control, a million more kids had a parent-reported ADD diagnosis in 2007 compared to 2003, a 22 percent increase in 4 years. More than 4.1 million had a current diagnosis in 2007 and 2.7 million were taking medication for the disorder.

Bernardo, who went from growing up with ADD to authoring his first book Johnny Paradise (www.robertbernardobooks.com), believes that the stigma of ADD does not have to be an impediment in the lives of those who are diagnosed. While living with ADD can be challenging, Bernardo believes it only makes overcoming those challenges more rewarding.

“I’ve lived with ADD for 55 years,” he said. “I have it and I passed it to my children, so I am intimate with both sides of the ADD equation. I know what it is to live with it as a patient and I know what it is to raise children who have it. The odd thing is that I have no problem with either. Some elements of life are made more difficult by ADD, but it does not make achievement and success impossible. (more…)

Long Haired Pia Toscano’s Shocking Elimination From American Idol

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

From the moment I first heard Pia Toscano sing I had perpetual goosebumps. I had no doubt in my mind that Pia was going to wind up in the top five.

But after tonight’s American Idol (AI) elimination all bets are off in a season which has been filled with shocking twists and turns starting with Casey Abram’s sudden illness and then elimination.

(American Idol Final Nine – Pia Toscano is in the center, front row – Fox/TV – All Rights Reserved)

Abrams was saved by the AI judges in a move which was deemed to be risky since his save was so early in the season.

Indeed, that save has come to bite the AI judges in the rear. Pia Toscano had long lush raven tresses which had a blinding shimmer. She was beautiful and had a body that wouldn’t stop.

Pia Toscano could also sing although she was constantly dinged for only singing ballads. On Wednesday night she broke with her ballad tradition. Afterall, the night was dedicated to rock n roll and Pia embraced the opportunity to sing Tina Turner’s ‘River Deep Mountain High.’ (more…)

Adrianne Palicki Spotted Filming Wonder Woman TV Show In LA

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

Actress Adrianne Palicki has been sighted in Los Angeles on Hollywood Boulevard filming the new “Wonder Woman” TV show (developed by David E. Kelly) she has picked to star in. She was spotted in full Wonder Woman costume on the 29th and 30th of March.

As I previously blogged, Palicki is doing Wonder Woman as a brunette even though she previously was a fan favorite on “Friday Night Lights” as a platinum blonde.

Although “Friday Night Lights” has ceased production, the final season was exclusively shown on Direct TV. The final season will be repeated on the regular network.

The character of Wonder Woman has been around since 1941 when the Amazonian character was introduced in a comic strip by William Mouten Marsten.

Already there has been some fan outcry about the new TV show. When initial images of Palicki in the Wonder Woman costume was shown fans criticized the first costumer as being too cheesy.

They also said the boots and pants looked cheap and more like a Halloween costume than a major crime fighting woman. Since that inital outcry Palicki’s costume has been changed to look more Amazonian.

Hair How To: Adrianne Palicki’s Sleek Shiny Bone Straight Long Hairstyle

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Adrianne Palicki has experienced a dramatic hair color journey during her acting career.

Palicki (born May 6, 1983) is best known for her role as the platinum blonde Tyra Collette on the NBC television series Friday Night Lights. She was a series regular for the first three seasons of the acclaimed show. Palicki left the series to appear in films, but returned to appear in the final two episodes of the series.

When she returned for the last two episodes of Friday Night Lights we came back as a dark cherry kissed brunette. It was hard to believe it was the same Tyra Collette. What happened to her platinum blonde tresses?

When Palicki left to co-star opposite Lucas Black in “Legion” her role called for her to be a brunette. She also starred in Fox/TV’s “Lone Star” in which her hair was also dark chocolate. Sadly “Lone Star” was canceled after just two episodes but she kept the dark hued tresses.

On February 16, 2011, it was announced that a still sultry brunette hue Palicki was selected to portray Wonder Woman in David E. Kelley’s adaptation for NBC. It appears her days as a blonde are over. At least for now. (more…)
