Jon And Kate Gosselin Officially Divorced

After grabbing headlines for one year regarding their marital dramas, the Gosselins have finally made their ending legal.  As reported first by TMZ.com, Jon (32) and former nurse Kate Gosselin (34) officially divorced Friday, December 18, 2009 after 10 years of marriage, eight children and a year of tabloid headlines.

The couple who went had a no-fault agreement agreed that Kate should get the family home in Wernersville in eastern Pennsylvania about 50 miles from Philadelphia.  She was also awarded primary caretaker to the Gosselin children which includes 9 year old twins and the famous 5 year old sextuplets.  It has been reported that the couple worked out custody arrangements by themselves but let an arbiter decide financial issues.

Kate's attorny, Mark Momjian told the Associated Press "divorce is always a difficult process, and in this case there's obviously the added challenge of being a celebrity and having to deal with the reality of such a large family,"

Although divorce is difficult Kate's attorney also said "I know she is very excited about restructuring her life and looking forward to the new year."  Jon's attorney, Mark Jay Heller was not available for comment and was said to be traveling.

The TLC episode in June of 2009 where Jon and Kate told viewers about their split was seen by more than 10 million viewers.   At the time, the couple claimed the TLC reality show had been a good opportunity for all involved.  The couple initially denied the show played a role in their separation and divorce.

Afterward Jon Gosselin insisted the network stop filming his children, blocking plans to transition the popular show into "Kate Plus Eight" which would focus on Kate's role as a newly single parent.  The final "Jon & Kate Plus 8" episode aired Nov. 23 and showed the parents taking their children on separate outings.

TLC has sued Jon Gosselin for breach of contract over allegedly paid appearances on rival networks, as well as over other issues.  It is alleged that TLC will be developing a show for Kate and her kids which could debut as early as Spring 2010.

Kate Gosselin, in a statement released by her attorney's firm called the marital breakup difficult.  She said "I am very relieved that our divorce has been finalized, and I look forward to the new year, focusing on the children."  She said "This has been a challenging transition for all of us."

Kate has gained fame not only as the mother of sextuplets but for her hair and plastic surgery makeovers.
