Academy's Contemporary Documentaries Series Gets Back To Nature

ACADEMY'S CONTEMPORARY DOCUMENTARIES SERIES GETS BACK TO NATURE

Beverly Hills, CA - "Encounters at the End of the World" and "Flow" will screen as part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 28th annual "Contemporary Documentaries" series on Wednesday, October 21, at 7 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. Admission is free.

"Encounters at the End of the World" examines the forces of human nature and Mother Nature, as they come head-to-head in Earth's most remote continent, Antarctica. Directed by Werner Herzog and produced by Henry Kaiser, "Encounters at the End of the World" earned an Academy Award® nomination for Documentary Feature. Herzog will be present to take questions from the audience following the screening.

"Flow" explores the political, environmental and human rights crisis that is resulting from increased privatization of the world's dwindling fresh water supply.

Director Irena Salina's documentary identifies not only the culprits, but also the crusaders who are fighting for change. Salina and producer Steven Starr will be present to take questions from the audience following the screening.

The 28th annual "Contemporary Documentaries" series is a showcase for feature-length and short documentaries drawn from the 2008 Academy Award nominations, including the winners, as well as other important and innovative films considered by the Academy that year.

All films will screen at the Linwood Dunn Theater at the Academy's Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study on Wednesdays at 7 p.m., except for the IMAX presentations on December 9. Filmmakers will be present at screenings whenever possible. Doors open at 6 p.m. All seating is unreserved.
