Sarah Jessica Parker Living Well Is Best Revenge

Sarah Jessica Parker or SJP, as she is affectionally called by the media, is a prime example of of George Herbert's famous quote which is "living well is the best revenge."

The ultimate glamazon who ushered high fashion into the mainstream during her reign as Carrie Bradshaw on the famous Sex And The City (SATC) series, has definitely paid her dues in every area of her life.

To an unaware outsider Sarah Jessica's charmed life might appear to be the result of good genes, timing and good fortune.  But this is definitely not the case.  And not by a long stretch.

The naturally curly haired actress, fashion icon and savvy business woman has endured years of poverty (her early life), being considered the ugly duckling with a strong female nerd side and lots of hounding by the papparrazzi.  She has also been the subject of untrue and unkind rumors about her personal life, working relationships on SATC and her marriage.  She was also labeled as "unsexy" by Maxim Magazine which she found "hurtful".

As she has discussed many times in a variety of interviews with all types of media, there was a time in her childhood "when her parents struggled to support their eight children", and SJP and her siblings had to "survive on emotional security alone."

SJP told Barbara Walters in an exclusive interview on 20/20 in February of 2006 "there was an occasion when there wasn't Christmas,"  she said, "that was difficult, because what happens after the holiday break is everybody comes back to school and talks about what they got."

Her acting career has also been full of challenges.  While most fans became aware of her when she began her SATC journey, she had been acting since she was a child, starring in "Annie" on Broadway for one year starting in March 6, 1979.   SJP made a splash on TV in 1982 when she appeared as a co-star in Square Pegs as a shy, misfit nerdy teen.  On Square Pegs she was definitely showcasing the ugly duckling side of herself.

In 1991 she had a part in L.A. Story with Steve Martin and her part was widely praised by the critics.  She appeared in several additional movies until she was sent the script for the TV series Sex And The City.

Sarah Jessica was not sure she wanted to commit to another TV series but Darren Star was determined to have her as Carrie and he eventually got his way.  Ultimately starring in Sex And The City catapulted Sarah Jessica into super stardom.

The "Sex and the City" star told Salon.com in 2001 "her inner cheeks are bitten, blistered and bloody, thanks to her nasty habit of chewing on the inside of her own mouth. And try as she might, she can't get herself to stop chomping -- her New Year's resolution to kick the habit bit the dust just 20 minutes into 2001."   Her cheek chewing habit?  She confided "it's born of insecurity and lack of self-esteem and anxiety about the world," Parker tells the World Entertainment News Network. "It's like a minefield in there."

As Harper's pointed out in their interview with her, she has "parlayed her SATC fame into, among other things, a fragrance line with Coty - Lovely, Covet, and the new trio of Dawn, Endless, Twilight - plus Bitten, her low-priced clothing line."

The first SATC movie grossed more than $400 million globally.  A phenomenal success considering some of the critics thought it would be a major flop.

Even Britney Spears wants to be "very SJP" or at least she wants to be her "for just a day".

Sex And The City Movie - Part II

The actress, who is set to reprise her role as sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw in the second Sex And The City Movie, wants the script for the latest SATC offering "to be packed with steamy scenes and funny story lines."

She said: "I think we want this one to be a romp. The last one, we got to tell a really mature sophisticated story that had real heartbreak in it, and this time, I think we want a romp. We want our audience to have a massive romp."

The 43-year-old actress - who will team up again with Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon for the next big screen installment - admits the movie will have to be sensitive to the growing global financial crisis.

Parker explained to TV host Bully Bush: "How do we do that well? And how do we do that in a not lazy way? How do we address these economic times in a franchise that has a lot to do with luxury and labels?"

"There is a lot that we have to think about because times are very different. So these are nice challenges, these are good challenges."

Parker also refused to give away what will happen next for Carrie and her new husband Mr. Big - played by Chris Noth.  She added: "In a million years I'm not going to give you an indication. I want someone to show up that first weekend."

Overcoming Slam By Maxim Magazine

Maxim Magazine named Sarah Jessica Parker as "unsexy" but the actress has gotten the best revenge.  She continues to live very well and with ongoing success.
