As of  March 28, 2014, NBC's Parenthood (1.4/4) is rocking a rating high.

The beloved family television drama is up for a second week in a row, growing to its highest rating since Oct. 3, nearly six months ago, during the season’s second week.

In total viewers, “Parenthood’s” 4.393 million is currently the show’s high since its season premiere on Sept. 26 did 5.056 million (pending updates).

It’s the fourth week in a row “Parenthood” has grown in total viewers.

Parenthood Is On The Cancellation Bubble

Sadly, the show, which is beloved by many, has been riding on the cancellation bubble for several weeks now.  Fans of the show are worried NBC will pull the plug.

As a result of this latest cancellation scare, fans are watching the show which explains why Parenthood is rocking a ratings high.

A die hard fan, not only am I still watching the show every week, as I recently reported, I've been binge watching the show on NetFlix starting over with the first season which premiered on NBC on March 2, 2010.

Parenthood's Realistic Plotlines

Parenthood was developed by Jason Katims and produced by Imagine Television and Universal Television for NBC. The show tells the story of the Braverman clan which consists of an elderly couple, their four children and their families. One of the grandchildren (Max Braverman) has Asperger's syndrome, which has gained attention in the press.

Why Is Parenthood On The Cancellation Bubble?

Why is the show on NBC's cancellation bubble?  Many experts believe the show's appearance on Thursday nights unfairly pits it against competitive shows.  Other experts believe the show has lost its way and should close up shop.

Of course I vehemently disagree.  If anything, Parenthood improves every year.

Parenthood Is Based On Jason Katims' Real Life Experiences

Last year fans were riveted by the breast cancer battle of Kristina Braverman which was based loosely upon the cancer battle Katims' wife faced.   Indeed, many of the Parenthood plot lines spring from the real life challenges Katims has faced in his own life.

The touch of reality Katims weaves through the story lines explains why the show is perceive and touching without being sappy.

Fans of the show don't understand the threat of cancellation, especially when the episodes for the 2013-2014 season have been spectacular.  Every single member of the Braverman family has dealt with their own life defining moments.  Somehow Katims manages to balance the storylines so that all of the characters have equal screen time while managing to evolve right before the viewers eyes.

Parenthood Is An Award Winning Show

The series has been well received by television critics and earned several nominations and awards.

In addition to a 2010 Television Academy Honors award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for its pilot episode, Parenthood has received a 2012 Vision Award from the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC).

Parenthood has received three separate 2012 honors for storylines and performances from the Entertainment Industries Council's PRISM Awards.

The show received multiple honors for its fourth season in 2013.  It also received additional Television Academy Honors awards for the overall season, two Young Artist Awards, and a Critics' Choice Television Award.

Summary - Why Parenthood Is Rocking A Ratings High

Fans are showing their support for Parenthood by turning out in record numbers to watch every week.  Here's hoping the NBC programing gods take note that Parenthood is rocking a ratings high and give them the green light for another season.

Even better, besides another season, it would be wonderful if NBC would give Parenthood a better time slot so fans can really watch this spectacular show.
