Famed celebrity hairstylist Ursula Stephen's most famous client was Rihanna.
I had the honor of Ursula Stephen - Celebrity Hairstylist On Fire and have watched her career skyrocket ever since.
A mane master for all ethnicities, Stephen is the Global Ambassador for Motions, a hair care and styling products company.
In her role with Motions, Ursula travels the world helping women transform their lives through their tresses and provides them with expert advice on head-turning hair care.
Number One Hairstylist For South Africa's Fashion Week
A fashion lover at heart, Ursula was tapped to be the number one hairstylist for South Africa’s fashion week and for Rihanna’s American Vogue cover shoot.
In addition, Ursula is repeatedly requested for her expertise in “new image” hair makeovers, and for her impeccable product and styling knowledge.
While her work speaks volumes for itself, Ursula has been called upon to provide expert tips and her personal “trade secrets” for many of the leading fashion and beauty publications including InStyle, Essence, Glamour, Us Weekly, In Touch, LA Times, and People Magazine – which named “The Rihanna Cut”; as The Most Coveted Haircut of The Year.
Ursula's worked with a very impressive of photographers from Patrick Demarchilier and Annie Leibovitz to Karl Lagerfeld and David LaChapelle, to name just a few of the stellar talents on her resume.
Salon Opening
Now Ursula has opened Ursula Stephen The Salon in her home town of Brooklyn (347-457-5834).
The chic salon is in Brooklyn’s hip Fort Greene neighborhood. The salon notably houses a “wall of fame,” which displays framed magazine covers of Ursula’s work with celebrity clients, including Rihanna along with Tia and Tamera Mowry.
The 644 square-foot space located at 66 Lafayette Avenue (between South Elliott Pl and South Portland Ave) has stylists trained by Stephen herself and offers cuts (trim $35 - $65, full cut $80-$155, men $60), color ($100), relaxers ($25-150), hair extensions ($30-$80) and curly styling, such as coils ($90) and rod set ($100).
If you have troubled, fried or just problem tresses, you may want to book an appointment at the salon for just a wash and set ($80) or moisturizing treatment ($30).
Ursula wants to attract a diverse clientele to her new shop. She told New York Magazine's The Cut “I want the salon to be versatile,” she also said “I want to see a white girl getting a blowout, and a black girl getting a weave. When I was younger, I didn’t want to work in an all-white salon, but I dreamed of an atmosphere where it was mixed together.”
