Elizabeth Montgomery Of Bewitched Was Hair Icon In Her Era

Now that Charlie's Angels is being rebooted by ABC for the Fall 2011 TV series CBS is considering rebooting Bewitched.

Even though the film co-starring Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman hit the skids at the box office the thinking now is that TV is a different animal.  Especially in the age of social media when fans can give instant feedback to the writers, directors and producers.

According to the Hollywood Reporter CBS has ordered a script from Sony Pictures Television for a potential TV remake of the hit 60s show.

Spouses Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher have been lined up to produce the TV series.  They were the producers behind the 2005 movie with Ferrell and Kidman.

Since Mad Men with its classic fashions, hair styles and make-up has been such a hit maybe Bewitched would work in a revamped version?

The late Elizabeth Montgomery was the star of the original series which ran from 1964 to 1972.  Her husband was played by Dick York and later by Dick Sargent. The story followed a suburban red haired witch (Montgomery) married to an advertising executive (York) who couldn't help using magic in her everyday life.

Hair Icon Of Her Era

It's interesting to watch reruns of the popular show to watch the hairstyles of that period.  At various times Montgomery (shown above courtesy of Wikipedia) wore a hairline pouf combined with a classic soft shoulder length flip.  In her own right the red haired Montgomery was a hair icon from her era.

It would be interesting to see if a revamped version of Bewitched would showcase 1960s hair or would take it into a more modern era.

No word from producers on who would play Montgomery's witch role or her husband if the script becomes a show.  It will be interesting to see if this remake makes it out of the gate in light of some of the other remakes which never quite got off the ground.
