Lice Found In Hair Extensions

A San Antonio woman says she found lice eggs in hair extensions she bought from a local beauty supply store. A customer says she bought the real hair extensions at the Daisy Beauty Supply on the Northeast Side for $175.

“Little eggs attach themselves to the hair, and when you run your finger through if they don't move,” explained the customer. “I knew exactly what I was looking at.”

She wanted to be sure, so she took the real hair extensions to a nurse who confirmed what she thought; the nurse called them nits, lice eggs.   She says she tried to return the hair to Daisy Beauty Supply, hoping to get her $175 back.

“I showed up to the store yesterday and kind of battled it out a little bit, and again they refused,” said Gagne.

So she went to a San Antonio news station who took the customer's concerns to the owner.  The owner said he bought the packaged hair from a vendor and has never had problems like this before. He also said he would refund the customer's money.   The owner says he will return the hair to the manufacturer and let them know about the lice eggs.

Is this a common experience when buying hair extensions?  Although it's mostly rare, knowing that it could be a potential problem means always making sure that you understand the return policy on any items you buy.  Also, inspect the extension hair as closely as possible before you leave the store.

Finally, make sure you check online to see if the store you plan to buy from has a good reputation for providing the best quality of hair.

Rough fingertails can rip and tear delicate hair. Always keep your nails smooth if you use your hands or fingers to style your hair.
