Introduction

Uma Thurman was born under the sign of Taurus (April 29, 1970 in Boston, Massachusetts) which is ruled by Libra, the sign of love and beauty.

The popular opinion holds Uma as a very talented actress who also happens to be a true goddess.

Although I adore her hair history of eye popping styles (many created by her famous hairdresser Laurent D) I actually enjoy her acting skills.

I would be hard pressed to pick my favorite role although I loved Uma in Hysterical Blindness as the very needy Debby Miller.

It seemed impossible that a woman as gorgeous as Uma could actually play a woman like Debby. Not only did she convince me she was Debby, I was haunted by her portrayal.

I also loved Uma in the scene with John Travolta in Be Cool when they were dancing. At that moment she seemed nothing like the Uma you might think you know. She wowed me again.

While there is always a lot of media buzz about Uma's private live, men and other madness, I really don't care. And apparently neither does Uma who has been quoted as saying if you just ignore the gossip it will go away.

I will admit to being obsessed with her hair over the years. Although I was not able to get my hands on the star during the period when she had coal black choppy hair, I have managed to include several of her famous "updo" styles.

Uma is one of those famous Hollywood beauties that appears to look good in just about any hair length, style or hue. Updos always seem to look graceful and elegant on Uma.

Celebrity Hairdresser Robert Hallowell once explained to me a major difference between big Hollywood stars like Uma and mere mortals is the neck.

When Robert first told me about the neck factor I was amazed I'd never noticed it before.

I started paying attention and he was spot on. Some of the most gorgeous stars like Uma has long swanlike necks providing them with instant good hair day guarantees.

If you look at Uma's recent hair evolution working backwards from her appearance at the 2006 Vanity Fair Oscar Party you will see Uma's was perfectly coiffed in a soft chignon with an artfully tousled quiff near the front of her gorgeous face.

If you look closely at the quiff you can

almost see where fingers were carefully use to lift and separate the strands giving the look a slightly messy but definitely elegant finish. To achieve the height in the front, the hair would have been backcombed. And yes, the style is perfect for her swan neck.

For her appearance at the 2006 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Uma wore her soft vanilla blonde strands loosely pinned into a soft chignon with an artfully tousled quiff near the front of her gorgeous face.

Soft waves are strategically teased out of the chignon creating a soft yet elegant finish.

Laurent, who I had the tremendous pleasure of chatting with about celebrity hair on two separate occasions, is one of those world class shining hair stars.

There are many reasons why Laurent, whose first major celebrity hair client was Bridgette Bardot (Laurent was 20 at the time) is a top celebrity hairdresser.

Not only does Laurent put his clients and their images first, he gives his heart and soul to his famous charges. Many of his long time clients have become integrated into his family. They dine and vacation together. How cool is that?

Working with celebrities whose lives are often unpredictable, madcap and somewhat chaotic, Laurent is used to being spontaneous with his clients.

When asked what was one of the most unusual places he has coiffed a celebrity, he laughed and mentioned the time that he and Uma, who was the face of Lancme at the time, were rushing from one Red Carpet Event to a late night meeting with world famous former Gucci design guru, Tom Ford.

Laurent explained "Uma's hair was still done up as a result of the award show", but needed "a new look for meeting with the famous designer".

Not having anywhere else to go, Laurent and Uma "snuck into the coat check room of a fabulous New York luxury hotel" and they both literally "plopped down on the floor" where Laurent set to work. He laughed and said because it was "so last minute and time was of the essence" he had, through "a series of mishaps, neglected to bring any of his styling tools with him".

Being ever resourceful, he scrounged around and luckily discovered a hair brush sticking up out of a handbag stashed in the coat room he was able "to borrow" to quickly smooth out Uma's original updo into a new style for her meeting.

He described in amazing detail how he "quickly popped out all the pins, holding her hair in its updo" and then "brushed her strands into a brand new look, in mere minutes".

Once he was finished, he carefully returned the brush to where he had "discovered" it and Uma looked absolutely amazing.

When Laurent relayed this story I told him somewhere in The Universe is a person who has no idea their brush was used by two famous people and are missing out on an EBay Bonanza. Laurent laughingly agreed with my assessment.

Summary

Of course it doesn't hurt that Uma Thurman is drop dead gorgeous with a graceful long neck, beautiful skin and eyes and a face like Helen of Troy. However one of her best hair secrets if the fact that she is a long time client of the fabulous Laurent DuFourg (Laurent D).
