Sun Dog Hemp Oil Shampoo & Conditioner/Detangler

Introduction

Fall and Wintertime means many-shampoos time, so I took this opportunity to try one of Hair Boutique’s many lines of hair care products, Sun Dog.

The shampoo and conditioner/detangler I tried is for “normal to extraordinary” hair, and comes in a delightful cedar/rosemary blend.

Interesting Hemp Oil Facts…

I found the following information on hemp oil as quoted from Doris de Guzman, Chemical Market Reporter:

“Hemp oil is mostly valued for its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). At 80 percent, the hemp oilseed contains the highest concentration of total PUFAs in the plant kingdom, the majority of which are the two essential fatty acids (EFA) linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). Its balanced EFA ratio, which closely matches human nutritional requirements, makes hemp oil a suitable ingredient in a variety of food, supplement and personal care products. Added to the value of hemp oil is the presence of a rare fatty acid, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is used to treat ailments such as neurodermatitis, arthritis and premenstrual syndrome.”

How I Tested Sun Dog Hemp Oil Shampoo & Conditioner/Detangler

I put my hair through one of my many torture tests prior to shampooing; I worked out, then vacuumed (truly one of the sweatiest, most angst-ridden chores I perform), dusted, washed my floors, and did the laundry. Now that my hair was thoroughly saturated with sweat, dust, and grains of kitty litter, I was more than ready to hit the showers.

I poured out a small amount of the Hemp Oil Shampoo and massaged it into my hair. It lathered up well, and the suds were fragrant with lavender and rosemary. (By the way, I really love a high-lather shampoo, and this is one of them. You can make GREAT “shampoo horns” with it, too!) The shampoo rinsed out easily, and left my hair squeaking with cleanliness and gratitude.

I used a smaller amount of conditioner/detangler, and worked it into my hair. It makes a light, silky lather, and has a great moisturizing feel. It too rinsed out well, and my hair felt extremely pampered and conditioned.

Fragrance

In using the shampoo, you’ll notice the lavender and rosemary right away. The scent is strong and clean, and makes the hair smell wonderful.

The conditioner has a stronger essence of lavender, and also makes the hair fresh and clean-smelling.

Packaging

The packaging for the Sun Dog products looks great—it reminds me of the labeling you see on those hideously expensive suncare products in spas. The label is Inca gold, with a shimmery-gold outline, with neat “hieroglyphics” at the bottom in teal and red. The Sun Dog trademark barking dog is teal, and the lettering is black. The bottles themselves are golden-brown plastic with black pop-tops (very handy for wet hands in the shower!).

Conclusion

I liked using this shampoo and conditioner, and love the fact that the ingredients are so hair-friendly. Additionally, the scent gives you that sought-after spa experience in the shower!

Jane’s Rating

On my own scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I give Sun Dog Hemp Oil Shampoo & Conditioner/Detangler a 9!
