The vivacious 5'3" actress was born October 24, 1989 in Toronto, Ontario in Canada and developed a love of performing at a very young age.
Her acting career began when she enrolled in a triple-threat program and was discovered by her agent at a performance. She then she has focused on developing her film and television career.
She made a splash on the CBC movie of the week, Shania, when she portrayed Shania Twain as a teen. Shenae won a recurring role on "Naturally Sadie".
Her fan base grew substantially when she nabbed the role of popular good/bad girl Darcy Edwards on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Although the role started out relatively minor, as her popularity in the role grew, she became one of the lead players.
Her outstanding work as Darcy garnered her lots of praise and attention, which ultimately helped her land the plum role of Annie in the CW's 90210.
Although the CW project is her primary focus at this point, she will still appear on Degrassi in a recurring role, even though her appearances on camera will be sporadic.
Media Backlash For Difficult & Too Thin
On 90210 Shenae plays a well-rounded kid from Kansas. She is overwhelmed with the challenges of trying to fit in to a new school, especially one in Beverly Hills where everything is completely different then her world back home. Shenae plays the role with high moral, vales and with a good sense of humor.
On-set rumors leaked to the media have painted Shenae very differently from her sweet character of Annie. According to insiders, Shenae is hard to work with and difficult. There has been talk of fighting on the set amongst the characters with fingers pointed at Shenae.
US Weekly added fuel to the Shenae buzz when they featured her on the front cover of the magazine suggesting the young Canadian was anorexic due to her thin frame. She has also taken a lot of criticism for her heavy smoking.
Debunking All The Rumors
Shenae along with several of her 90210 co-stars such as Lori Loughlin, Shannon Doherty and Tori Spelling have all denied that Shenae has any type of eating disorder.
Lori Loughlin who plays Shenae's mom on the series told the media "Shenae is very petite; her frame doesn’t even look like it could carry a lot of weight... I see them eating lunch and candy... These girls are young and their metabolisms are moving at light speed - they can eat whatever they want.”
Shenae told the media she's "naturally built that way and she's perfectly healthy".
In a blog entry, responding to the criticism triggered by the US Weekly cover she wrote: "I happened to be very small built, and I've always been skinny".
She sent a message letting people know she is unhappy with all the criticism.
Shenae said "I personally think that people need to stop criticizing everyone in the media these days about their issues. I'm sure you wouldn't like it if someone pointed out all of your flaws and all of your mistakes."
Steal Shanae's Hairstyle
The up and coming actress has a true love of fashion and recently completed an internship at Fashion Television in Toronto.
Because of her various acting roles in the past and on Degrassi, her hair styles have changed rapidly depending on the character she portrayed.
It has been widely speculated that the lovely Shanae regularly wears some form of hair extensions. It would be unusual if she did not. What busy actress in Hollywood doesn't wear either fusion or clip-in extensions on a regular basis?
Regardless of how Shanae's hairdressers create her hairstyles, she always looks gorgeous.
Steal Shanae's Long Lush Strands
In her role as Annie on 90210 Shanae wears her tresses long and lush. Although she has been known at time to wear her hair fairly straight, for the majority of her appearances on 90210, she has appeared coiffed in waves.
Step By Step Instructions
The 90210 cutie has a slightly pointed chin with a face shape that's a cross between a heart and oval. Her jaw is prominent and depending on how she wears her hair, gives the illusion of a square facial shape.
Shanae has a history of wearing hair extensions for her various roles. This was especially true on Degrassi. It appears to be true in her current role as Annie on 90210.
Shanae rocks loose S shaped waves which cascade off a deep side part and a full side-swept fringe. The swooping bangs helps to minimize Shenae's forehead and make her eyes look bigger.
This hair style works best for hair that has natural bend such as waves or loose curls. If you hair is stick straight, you will have to use hot rollers and/or curling irons to achieve the same results.
Follow the steps listed below to steal Shanae's loose barely-there waves:
1. Cleanse hair with a product designed to address your hair's special texture needs.
Depending on the texture (straight, naturally curly, wavy, kinky, etc.,) of your hair you may wish to either cleanse with a diluted shampoo formulation (1 part shampoo to 3 or 4 parts water) or wash with conditioner only (CO). Choose the best historical cleansing steps for your hair's natural texture.
If you color, highlight or chemically treat your strands as Shanae does, select a shampoo that supports those treatments as well as your natural texture.
2. Apply the appropriate rinse-out conditioners. (Avoid if hair is super thin, fine or tends to flatten easily). Rinse out or deep conditioners are excellent steps to take for strands which may be damaged.
3. Finish with a cool/cold water rinse to close cuticles and encourage natural shine.
6. Separate hair into individual 2" sections. Working from side to side around the entire head blow dry hair with blow dryer with long finger diffuser.
Avoid touching your strands with your fingers as you work to avoid frizz. When possible, use the slowest, coolest setting. Allow strands to rest in the base of the diffuser cup as you direct air flow through the strands.
7. Once each section of hair is 100% dry, clip or pin the section into a twisted ringlet pattern against your scalp and continue drying the next section.
8. When hair is completely dry and pinned against the scalp, spray entire the entire head with a firm holding spray like PhytoPro Strong Finishing Spray or similar.
Allow spray to dry completely before removing pins or clips.
9. Right before leaving the house unpin all the hair sections and use fingers to tousle the newly formed barely-there waves. If desired, use a small or medium barrel curling iron to touch up any disconnected curl sections.
Note: For more defined waves set hair in hot rollers or use a medium barrel curling iron and use fingers to deconstruct.
10. Finish with a swipe of shine serum. Apply one drop of serum to the palms of your hands, rub together and then lightly brush over the top of your gorgeous new soft waves.
Top off your barely-there waves with a crystal encrusted headband, or attach an accent flower or shimmering clip.
Shanae's career is sizzling. Besides her role on 90210 the ambitious actress is in high demand for films.
She continues to pursue film work along with her other commitments and recently appeared in the ABC Movie, Picture This with Ashley Tisdale.
