Laicale: The Salon That Sizzles

Introduction

Close your eyes and imagine yourself experiencing a fabulous hair styling experience where live DJs spin hot alternative sounds while a mystical Tarot reader tells you the future of your hair, and possibly whether you may win the lottery or a chic new pair of Prada boots.

Fantasy experience? Not really. The reality is that this incredible happening hair place has been providing perfect coifs, chic tunes, Tarot and high tech option since September of 1999.

If you aren't fortunate enough to live close enough to hop a cab to Manhattan's happening SoHo neighborhood, keep your fingers crossed and maybe the fabulous new Laicale (pronounced lie-kuh-lay) will be opening in a neighborhood near you. Afterall, a third salon opened in Japan in early 2002.

Fabrizio Fiumicelli

Celebrity Spotting

PAPER Magazine did an interview with The Killer's front man, Brandon Flowers. He posed for the piece with an edgy haircut from LAICALE Director Robert Winslow. His sides were cut extremely short, but he had a type of overcut from his hairline back to the top of his crown where his messy and tousled hair flowed freely.

Flowers is not the only celebrity who has been styled by the experts at Laicale. Expect regular sightings since the salon often works on major fashion shoots.

How I Discovered Laicale

While I had heard of Fabrizio and his hair expertise, I first read about the SoHo Laicale in the November 28th issue of the New York Times Sunday Styles section ("A Haircut That Fits Any Schedule"). Fabrizio also has a Laicale in Pisa, Italy and the cool salon in Japan.

Although I was born and raised in St. Louis, since my first visit to The City at 18, I've always had a major passion for New York City.

I make it a practice to visit The City every year or so. During a recent visit I stayed at the charming Inn At Irving Place and walked all over SoHo, The Village, Gramercy Park and adjourning neighborhoods.

I still read the Times whenever I can. When I saw the article on Laicale and discovered it was in SoHo I had to know more.

Recently I picked up the Jan/Feb 2000 issue of Nylon which had a little blurb on Fabrizio and Laicale by Ali Ribis. The

Nylon Mag piece was excellent and featured a great photo of this revolutionary hair mecca by Christian Aschman.
