She was wearing her trademark burgundy/cherry red hair with a long side-swept thick fringe with lots of volume along the top and sides.
Crimped Wavy Loose Pony Hairstyle
Allison's hair was pulled back a few inches below her crown into a very loose crimped and waved half up/half down hairstyle. The hair cascading down her back was interwoven with a stunning array of complementary and contrasting colors such as pink, purple, violet and even midnight blue.
If you love Allison's constantly changing hair hues which range from deep cherry to purple infused lengths, textures and range of ever changing hairstyles you are in good company.
The striking burgundy hued singer is known as much for her edgy hairstyles and spunky personality as she is for her amazing singing talent.
Although Allison burst onto American Idol with her own personal interpretation of electric red hues, once she graduated to the finals the Idol hairdressers started her amazing transformation to her current hair colors, textures and styles.
As Allison's career has exploded with the release of her first CD on December 1st and her performances on the Idol tour, her hair and style has continued to evolve. Like many emerging celebrities Allison has had her tresses coiffed by celebrity hairdressers.
Hairstyle: Crimped, Burgundy Red Fringed Hairstyle
One ongoing question about Allison is whether or not she utilizes any type of wigs or add-on hair for her various hairstyles. Looking closely at her photo above it appears obvious, at least to me, Allison had add-on strands.
If you study Allison's New Year's Eve hairstyle you will see a range of violet, purple, pink and even midnight blue tresses cascading down around Allison's shoulders. With the many options available in today's add-on hair market it's often hard to tell, but in this case it appears Allison has either temporary clip-in strands or semi-perm fusion extensions in a wide ranges of colors to complement her base color.
Hairstyle Color: Burgundy/Cherry Red
Hairstyle Highlights/Lowlights: Allison's hair color is a spectacular mix of light and dark burgundy and cherry reds which provides depth, shimmer and movement to her stunning waves.
If you wish to copy Allison's unique hair color you will most likely need to lift your current color and apply the burgundy/cheery red hue you desire.
Texture: Allison appears to have medium to thick hair in with lots of natural bend and waves. Her hair is usually styled showcasing tons of body and lush volume built in around the crown and throughout the sides.
Fringe: Allison generally favors long and thick fringes which sometimes has slight separation throughout the expanse of bang hair. They often extend from an off-center or side part.
Face Shape: Allison's gorgeous face shape is a blend of oval diamond and heart shaped. She has beautiful eyes and cheekbones which slope into a squared off jaw with a slightly rounded chin.
Hairstyle Works Best: Allison's hairstyle works best for hair which is shoulder length or longer, all one length or with subtle layers. The best texture for this hairstyle is naturally wavy. It can also be created on hair which is naturally straight and natural curls, especially if the curls are looser rather than tight.
If your natural hair is short Allison's hairstyle can be re-created utilizing clip-in or fusion style hair extensions.
Hair Tools Required: Large barrel curling iron or hot crimping iron, 100% boar bristle brush, long tail comb, bobby pins, styling spray and/or cream, sculpting hairspray, shine spray and/or serum drops. To add fullness and length you may wish to play with clip-in hair extensions or individual hair extension strands in a wide range of complementary or contrasting colored hues.

How To Copy Allison's Crimped, Burgundy Red Fringed Hairstyles
To copy Allison's crimped, burgundy red fringe wavy hairstyle follow the simple steps listed below:
1. Start with either freshly cleansed and completely dry hair or with day old hair with a cream or spray designed to help with the creation of crimps and waves.
Note: If you shampoo your hair before styling be sure to use products for your hair type (fine/thin, medium, thick, very thick), texture (straight, wavy, curly, kinky) and current condition (normal, damaged, extremely damaged).
2. If you wish to copy Allison's hair completely, create an uneven off-center or side part from the hairline using a long tail comb.
If you prefer you can copy Allison's hairstyle without a fringe or off-center part it will work but it may not look exactly the same as Allison's edgy style.
4. With thumb on both hands separate hair from adjacent to the top of the earlobes on each side of the head to create a half pony which should be secured with the base just a few inches below the crown. Secure the base with a Blax, Bungee or hair-friendly elastic in the same color as your hair.
5. Pull a few strands out from the remaining hair and wrap around the base. Pin with a bobby pin on the underneath to secure the strands.
6. Separate remaining hair into one-inch sections. Clip all remaining hair out of the way while working on each individual section.
After prepping hair with spray or similar, wrap around a large barrel curling iron (or large hot rollers) in a ringlet pattern for a few seconds to avoid burning or damaging strands or hold the iron until you feel the heat coming off of the hair.
8. After creating each individual crimped section and removing the iron, use fingers to recreate the crimp. Pin to the scalp to allow to cool completely. Repeat with all back sections.
9. When all the sections of hair have been completely curls, crimped and waved, reformed and pinned, spritz the entire head lightly with a setting or styling spray.
10. When hair is completely dry and cool, lightly rake through the remaining hair with your fingers to arrange hair into sexy crimped and wavy strands just like Allison's hairstyle.
11. For Allison's brilliant shine add a few drops of shine serum, spray or shine enhancing hairspray to the palms of your hands and then wipe lightly over the top of your tresses.
Note: If the crimps and waves are too well formed use a 100% boar bristle brush to break up the sections a bit and make them softer. Remember the smaller the curling iron barrel, the tighter the resulting waves and crimps.
This hairstyle is gorgeous and can be worn for any Holiday or Party Hair event ranging from a formal or semi-formal dinner or a special formal dance or Prom.
This is a classic hairstyle which never goes out of style. To amp up the look even more add a bejewelled hairpin clip on one side of the hairline.
Many music industry experts believe Allison has a bright future for her career. Now that her first CD has been released look for her to make a lot more public appearances and make the round of the talk show circuit.
Look for Allison's hair, fashions and make-up to evolve as her career blossoms. Just think about Idol favorites Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Kelly Pickler. If Allison follows their paths she will probably continue to evolve her image, style and hair over the next few years. Lets just hope she keeps her stunning edge.
