Every year I am positively glued to my TV set watching the annual Golden Globes awards.

Why? The show, which is traditionally held in early January, is the beginning of the Red Carpet award season

Celebrities glide down the famous carpets in the latest fashion and hair trends providing an instant sneak preview of what will most likely be hot for the upcoming year.

Will hair be long, short, up or down? The styles are definitely noteworthy.

Keep in mind that celebrities take the award season very seriously.

As celebrity hairdresser Laurent D explained to me "celebrities prepare for their award show appearances for many months in advance because looking great is part of their job. They diet, exercise and work with world class expert stylists, make-up artists and hairdressers to make sure that their hair and fashions look fantastic".

Although you may think that the Golden Globe or other award shows have nothing to do with you. Think again. For anyone that cares about fashion, the award shows influence what we will wear and what we can buy over the next several months.

Hot Color Trends At Awards

Many of the celebrities were wearing glorious shades of red that ranged from ruby to scarlet and extended from their tresses to their toes.

Commander In Chief star Geena Davis was the Queen of Red matching her beautiful Goldwell hued red hair (Celebrity Hairdresser Robert Hallowell confessed all) to her gorgeous gown, lipstick, shoes and jewels.

Eva Longoria dazzled in a Grecian inspired red gown as did Scarlett Johansson.

The beautiful blonde star of Black Dahlia was stunning in a red Valentino crisscross-backed dress that left nothing to the imagination.

Besides red, white was worn by many of the celebrities including the breathtaking Kate Beckinsale, the winning Sandra Oh and expectant mom Gwyneth Paltrow.

Keira Knightley floated down the red carpet in a gorgeous lwhite strapless Valentino gown indicated she is a budding fashion icon.

Pamela Anderson caused a stir in a white gown with a black top that was a major departure from her normal plunging, bare it all, style.

Her hair was coiffed in a soft wavy style that hinted at old Hollywood glamour.

Felicity Huffman wore a creamy white gown with silver accents and looked simply stunning.

The little black dress was also out in force. Some of Hollywood's major trend setters including Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger, Hilary Swank and New York fashion plate Sarah Jessica Parker looked sophisticated in black. Sarah Jessica had a sizzling new updo style combing the latest skinny black elastic headband with a messy at-the-crown twist.

Natalie Portman wore a slinky black lace cocktail gown and Jessica Alba stole the fashion show in a sleek charcoal hued Versace.

Queen Latifah led the new blue brigade which included Nicollette Sheridan and Anne Hathaway.

Updos and various hair twists were very popular. The Queen went with a sleek twist while Mariah Carey, Rachel Weisz

Penelope Cruz and Virginia Madsen opted for pastels. Plunging halter necklines were everywhere..

Daily Hair Tip
Give short hair tousled looks by scrunching or running fingers through wet hair as it air dries. Use blowdryer on low setting for faster results.
