Anyone who knows me understands that I have transcended the workaholic label trading it in for the title of work maniac.
In fact, when Adam Sandler's movie Click came out I could relate to many of his character's issues of balancing work with family.
Recently I have been experiencing a series of health challenges that have forced me to slow down.
Although a Universal Remote ala Click didn't help me see the light, a serious fall, some very painful cracked toes, a sprained ankle and other health issues made me stop and take note.
As a writer I always like to write about what I know and am currently experiencing. At this juncture in my life I am dealing with lots of challenges that are not necessarily hair related but definitely health and beauty related.
Having hot looking feet and toes is definitely important. Even more important is being able to walk on those feet and toes without pain, crutches or taking meds.
I decided to write this article to share my own personal experiences on my journey to get healthy beautiful toes and feet.
Sore, Achy, Feet
Statistics show that the average woman logs an incredible 10,000 to 12,000 steps every day with that number increasing during hectic times of the year.
According to the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), three out of four Americans will develop foot ailments at some point in their lives.
And women are four times more likely to be suffering then men!.
The good news is there are now more ways than ever to relieve foot pain fast and prevent it from coming back.
Various published reports indicated that at least 35-40 million Americans are currently nursing sore, achy feet at this point. The causes are many and varied. A lot of the foot problems can be prevented with proper knowledge.
This has been documented by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Pain Shooting Up Your Heels
As many as one in three women will struggle with heel pain at some point in their lives. The number-one cause is plantar fasciitis. This is an inflammation of the ligament that runs from the heel to the ball of the foot.
Soft silicone heel cushions help ease pain for up to 95% of sufferers. You can pick them up in any drugstore. Keep your ligaments limber with gentle stretches.
Every time you get out of a chair, reach down and gently pull your toes toward you. Hold for 10 seconds then repeat three more time before standing. And once each day, roll a can of frozen juice under your arches for 10 minutes. Both exercised will keep your ligaments relaxed and limbed. This trick can help ease the pain in as little as two weeks for the majority of people.
Swollen, Tender Big-Toe Joints
Statistics suggest as many as 78 million women already have bunions. These are enlarged big toe joints that have become inflamed or irritated.
Surgery can remove bunions that have become too large or painful, but you can keep your from getting to that point by going barefoot as often as possible.
It eliminates the pressure and reduce the inflammation and pain.
When you do wear shoes, keep them close to the ground. Studies suggest that just sticking to shoes with a 2.5 inch (or lower) heel can cut the pressure on toe joints as much as sevenfold.
To pain-proof your toes
Buy your shoes to fit your biggest foot. At least two out of three women have one foot larger than the other. Fit your largest foot and make sure the toe box is roomy enough for you to wiggle your big toes when you're standing.
Painfully Ingrown Toenails
According to the APMA they're one of the top foot problems plaguing Americans. Although no one's sure yet why, women are 50% more likely then men to struggle with this problem.
To speed healing, soak your ffet in very warm salt water for 10 minutes twice daily. Then slip a tiny wisp from a cottonball under the corner of the nail to help it grown away from the nail bed.
Experts say the pain could start to ease in as little as 24 hours and the nail could right itself within a few week.
To Pain Proof Your Nails:
File them. People are often way too through when trimming their toenails and cutting anils too short allows the to fold into the nail bed. Instead trim them straight across. Then use a nail file to smooth the edges.
Consider cutting back on the snug panyhose, tights or support hose in favor ot looser fabrics when you can. Contantly wearing tight foot garmets can lead to ingrown nails.
