American Crew Pomade: For Hold & Shine

Introduction

AmericanCrewBlack.gif (8151 bytes)I recently had a hair cut, and the salon had temporarily run out of my favorite styling stick. I asked for a similar product, and was offered American Crew Pomade for Hold and Shine. You know me--I'm always willing to try something new!

Hair Boutique Note: Although American Crew was originally designed to be used for men, it is also used by a large number of women who find the products to be excellent.

Usage

p11.jpg (8339 bytes)This is a thick pomade; so thick in fact that the finger marks I left in the jar one day remained until the next. Scoop out as much or as little as you need, distribute it on your palms and run your hands through your hair. If you like, use more to create a slicked-down, Oscar night kind of hairdo. Or, in my case, I used less to spike up my bed head 'do.

You can use the pomade on either curly or straight hair and get the same control and shine.

Packaging & Cost

American Crew Pomade for Hold and Shine comes in a brown plastic jar with tan lettering which is very hard to read. However, this won't be a problem for you because I already strained my own eyes reading it and have listed the ingredients here for you! The cost at the Salon was $12.95 per jar. (USD). This cost may vary according to where the product is purchased.

Fragrance

Crew's scent is lemony and sage-y, but it is very light and the fragrance does not linger in the hair.

How I Tested the Pomade

As I said earlier, I needed a product after my hair cut to keep my hairdo spiked up. I used about a fingerful, rubbed my hands together and distributed it throughout my hair. It held the hairdo beautifully, and when I went out in the sunshine and checked myself out in the mirror, I was impressed by how shiny the pomade made my hair.

Ingredients

Deionized water, Peg-25 hydrogenated castor oil, oleth-10, lanolin, oleth-20, diisopropyl dimer dilinoleate, glycerin (*coconut oil), hydroxypropyl bisstearyldimonium chloride, alcohol (*mixed grain), PVP, ginseng extract (*ginseng root), sage extract (*sage leaves), quilloja extract (*panama bark), propylene glycol, methylparaben, propylparaben, diazolidinyl urea, fragrance.

CAUTION: For external use only. Avoid eye area.

Conclusion

While the pomade is not as waxy as a styling stick, it has a great texture, leaves no residue in the hair, and holds a hairdo well.

Jane's Rating

On my own scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I give American Crew Pomade for Hold and Shine a 9.

In Allure's 12/99 Makeover Of The Month the client went into the Hair salon as a blonde & came out a brunette minus 5 inches of hair. Beware...this can happen to anyone!
