Vim and Vigor salon officially opens today as a new San Francisco hair salon with a backbone of education and some of the best stylists and colorists in the nation.

Co-Founder and Managing Partner Gregory Murray, who opened the salon's predecessor Re:Do salon in early 2008 with his business partner Peter Popejevalo, has hired Garret Hamabata, formerly of Gavert Atelier and Tom Brophy salons in Los Angeles, and Beverly Zunke, former District Education Manager for KPSS, Inc., to lead the salon's new professional cutting and coloring programs.

Hamabata and Zunke have created the new Vim and Vigor Education Program encompassing systematic internal benchmarks for achievement in hair styling and hair coloring.

Gregory Murphy Believes Strongly In Education

"Since the days of my first career in sales, I have been amazed by the power of great employee education as a foundation for business. When you educate employees with commitment and enthusiasm, you are setting yourself up for success," said Murray. "I'm excited to bring my passions for education and the salon industry together at Vim and Vigor. Our team has amazing experience and a cohesive attitude that's rare in the salon industry. I can't wait for our clients to experience what a difference this approach makes."

Master Stylist & Educational Director Garret Hamabata

Master Stylist and Educational Director Garret Hamabata comes to Vim and Vigor from Beverly Hills where he was a Stylist and Educator at Gavert Atelier and Tom Brophy salons.

Hamabata has been in the salon industry since 1997. He began his career at the internationally renowned TONI&GUY in Southern California. Driven by a tireless passion for self-improvement and hard work, Hamabata excelled quickly and was appointed Educational Director and Advanced Academy Instructor.

Since 2004, he has also traveled throughout North America conducting haircutting seminars and working as a platform artist with hair care company, KMS California.

It was during these travels that he met Murray. In 2008, after building a very solid reputation for himself in Beverly Hills, Hamabata moved to San Francisco to shape the Vim and Vigor Cutting Education Program.

To this day, he continues to educate himself in the field, pushing himself forward as he serves as a mentor for stylists in training. Hamabata specializes in working with the natural texture of his clients' hair and creating hairstyles that are personalized, versatile and low maintenance.

Beverly Zunke

Born in the U.K., Director of Color Beverly Zunke comes from a family of salon professionals. At twelve years old, she discovered her passion for coloring hair while working in her aunt's salon. In the early '80s, Beverly completed the Advanced Cutting and Coloring Class at Vidal Sassoon in London.

She has worked in Milan, London and California, and has owned and operated salons on two continents. In 2005, Zunke was hired as a District Education Manager for KPSS, Inc., supplier of Goldwell and KMSCA products.

She traveled extensively across the U.S. and Mexico for special hair trade events, seminars, motivational classes and fashion shows. After working in this position on the corporate side of the salon business for several years, Zunke moved to San Francisco to shape the Coloring Education Program at Vim and Vigor into a serious training program that mirrors the structure often found in European salons.

Zunke specializes in coloring hair with the latest technology while maintaining the hair's health and natural beauty.

Services Offered At Vim & Vigor

Services offered at Vim and Vigor include men's and women's hair cuts, color glaze, full color tint, color retouch, partial and full highlights, color correction and thermal hair straightening.

Stylist Ash Lopez specializes in Brazilian blowouts, the latest technology in hair straightening beloved by many because, unlike other straightening methods, it actually improves the condition of the hair.

The Brazilian blowout is only available at a handful of other salons in San Francisco although it has been widely adopted in New York and Hollywood. Brazilian blowout service is one more significant differentiator for Vim and Vigor.

Vim & Vigor Educational Program

The Vim and Vigor Educational Program is a signature in-house training system with measurable benchmarks for the success and advancement of staff members who are beginning their career in the salon industry.

The program includes a separate Color Education Program and Cutting Education Program, both of which are built around mentorship for upcoming stylists and colorists, training them in technique, consultation and customer service. The Vim and Vigor team of professionals is united by this cohesive approach, philosophy and standard of excellence, ensuring all graduates and employees deliver the highest caliber services in the industry.

Vim & Vigor Design

Vim and Vigor salon inhabits a 2,000-square-foot space, flanked by custom-designed, black, wood chairs at cutting stations on both sides. Designed by award-winning architect Stanley Saitowitz with black concrete floors and violet lighting, the overall mood is clubby and cool.

Eye-catching flat screen TVs above the salon stations inject energy into the room as they play the latest Paris, Milan and New York fashion shows from the likes of Christian Dior, John Varvatos and Helmut Lang. In an artistic and cheeky turn, the salon's walls mimic the natural look of a floor strewn with hair.

The decor's cross-section of modernity and nature reflects the Vim and Vigor approach to hair: using the latest techniques to work with the hair's natural texture.

Behind the sleek walls of Vim and Vigor's central hallway are tanning booths of the salon's sister business, Tan Bella, offering the most advanced high-pressure UV tanning beds and UV-free spray tanning. Vim and Vigor and Tan Bella were designed together so that clients could book tanning and hair appointments conveniently in one visit.
