Facebook Fatigue?

It happened with MySpace after the novelty wore off and predator reports started to surface.  Craig's List also lost it's luster due to crimes linked to posting on the popular web ads.

Now Facebook Fatigue is the latest term tied to the popular social networking site.  In reality, Facebook is no longer  as popular as it once was.  TV shows, movie stars and celebrities all face the possibility of becoming boring.

Internet psychologist Graham Jones predicted that Facebook users would suffer the same kind of ‘fatigue’ that comes whenever men and women get bored with trying anything that is new.

It was recently reported by the Mail Online that 100,000 Brits bored with Facebook and concerned with privacy issues have deactivated their Facebook accounts.  It's also been reported that over six million users in the U.S. have logged off Facebook for good.

Facebook Rocked By Scandals

The social network space where Facebook and Twitter reign, has been recently rocked by scandals and privacy scares which is pushing many former users away.

Graham Jones told the Mail Online "People get terribly excited about something new and after a while the novelty wears off. Even if it is a new TV series everybody thinks it is fantastic at the beginning and things tail off."

He pointed out "In all aspects of our lives we are addicted to novelty, so Facebook should be the same. The reason it is so compelling is that it is the first big website that allows two-way communication between people. Humans are social beings and up until about five years ago we did not have a website for direct communication in this way."

Are you facing Facebook Fatigue?  What do you think of the latest trend to de-active your Facebook account?
