DWTS Will Not Be The Same Without Dancer Derek Hough

Professional Dancer Derek Hough has decided to leave Dancing With The Stars (DWTS), temporarily, to star in a Hollywood movie.  I for one am very sad since he's my alltime favorite dancer on the show.  Although he's only 25 years old, Derek is an incredible dancer.

The platinum blonde lifelong dancer helped Nicole Scherzinger, Brooke Burke and Jennifer Grey take home the coveted mirrorball trophy.   Derek has already started training for the movie by brushing up on his tap dancing.

The 25-year-old told People.com he had already put on about 10lbs of muscle for the upcoming film, 'which is a lot for me.'   The movie focuses on two dancers embroiled in a Romeo and Juliet-style romance.

Hough will play a New Orleans street dancer who moved to New York and falls for an Asian drummer, played by Korean singer BoA.  Despite being members of rival dance clubs they fall in love - with predictable results.

The film was penned by the author of hit movies Save the Last Dance and Step Up and features a number of big dance routines.

Hough insists he plans to return to the show.   'I will be making it back to Dancing with the Stars in the fall,' he said.   'I'm just taking a little break and taking this chance to grow and expand a little bit as an artist.   'It's like I told one of the producers on the show – I'll come back with a whole new set of skills.'

By trying a new career, Hough, romantically linked to British singer Cheryl Cole, is following in the steps of sister Julianne, who is now trying her hand as a country singer.
