Crystal Bowersox' Iconic Dreadlocks

It's been a year since a dreadlock adorned Crystal Bowersox appeared on TV screens as an American Idol contender.

She was instantly a standout from the other contestants due to her trademark dreadlocks which she wore in an array of different styles from down around her shoulders to up in an array of chic twists, knots and half up/half down styles.  Like one of her heroes, Melissa Etheridge, she walked to the beat of her very own drummer.

Crystal resisted cutting, coloring or significantly altering her signature dreads because of the commitment she made to remaining true to her own unique hair and fashion styles.

It wasn't just her chic trademarks and goth hued black fashions, it was also her raw singing style which wowed the judges and fans alike.  In December of 2010, almost a year after her American Idol debut, she release her debut album, Farmer's Daughter with very strong sales.  It's expected that when all is said and done Crystal will top Season 9's American Idol winner, Lee DeWyze's debut album.Even though Crystal Bowersox came in second on American Idol, her record label, Jive Records is marketing the edgy songbird in non-traditional ways.  It is rumored Crystal might perform at the renowned Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival as well as the famous South by Southwest (SXSW) gathering of music fanatics in Austin, Texas.

Just as Crystal refused to allow the Idol hairstylists to make over her dreadlocked hair, her unique take on the music business is winning audiences over like no other Idol winner or finalist.  Her fans are very passionate about the performer, her creativity and her integrity as an artist and musician.

Inventing New Dreadlock Hairstyles

Besides her creatives musical style, Crystal continues to invent new hairstyles to wrap, twist and pin her dreads into. The beauty of Crystal's dreads is that they do not extend all the way to the roots.  This provides her with the option to combine her long twisted strands with edgy hairline bumps.  She also combines smooth roots with dreadlock ponytails as well as half up and half down styles.

Crystals showcases her dreadlocks with an array of hair accessories ranging from headbands, clips, scarves and hats.  Just as the multi-talented performer can talk her guitar on the road and entertain on the fly, her dreadlocks constantly are changing and transforming.
