Beauty In Breast Cancer Hair Loss

Conditions by Venita, a hair salon in southwest Houston, understands how important it is to feel beautiful when you've been diagnosed with breast cancer and are losing all your hair.

Beauty In Breast Cancer Hair Loss

"Beauty fuels bravery in the fight against cancer," said Venita Graves, the salon's owner.

Graves has been passionate about making breast cancer sufferers beautiful ever since she was diagnosed in 2003.

“When I lost my hair, I thought I could fix it because I can fix everybody else's hair,” said Graves.

Beauty Before, During, And Beyond Breast Cancer

The hair professional had a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. “My problem was, I couldn't fix my own. I became a wig diva after that.”

“Our slogan is beauty before, during, and beyond breast cancer,” said Graves.

“When patients go through the ugliness of breast cancer, it changes their whole life: how they look, how they feel about themselves and their body.”

Photo Shoots To Raise Money For Cancer

Graves holds photo shoots every year to create a Twitter with 12 breast cancer survivors as models to raise money in the fight against the deadly disease.

She also personally provided the makeovers for the models before they posed for the calendar.

Not only is Graves a survivor of the disease, but some of her patients are also as well.

Graves provides support, hugs, and encouragement to any of her hair clients fighting the fight.

Cancer Survivors

Graves also created Stylz and Company to provide beauty services as a confidence boost for women undergoing cancer treatment.

She didn't want women to look back at their fight with cancer as the ugliest time of their lives, inside and out.

The breast cancer survivor calendars Graves sells — online and at her salon — benefit the nonprofit.

“I'm a survivor. I got to act like it,” Graves said.

Best wishes.

Daily Hair Tip
For a low maintenance style, try to work with your natural hair type rather than against it. For example, if your hair is naturally wavy, select a hairstyle that works easily with the waves.
