Farrah Fawcett - Hair Icon - Passes Away

It was revealed that the beautiful Farrah Fawcett most famous as her role on TV's Charlie's Angels passed away just before 9:30 am this morning (Thursday, June 25, 2009) at the age of 62 in a Santa Monica hospital.

Farrah was also famous for her iconic long layered "wings" hairstyle which became wildly popular during Farrah's reign on Charlie's Angel and for her photo in the famous swimsuit poster showcasing her hair.

The pop icon, set aside her fantasy blonde and beautiful image to go after more serious acting roles.

Although eventually Farrah ditched her famous hair wings for layered soft waves, she kept her hair blonde and mostly shoulder length for the majority of her life until she underwent treatment for her rectal cancer.

It was revealed that Farrah had lost all of her famous blonde tresses due to cancer treatments (she actually shaved her head to be proactive before losing her tresses) but it was reported she didn't mourn the loss of her hair if it meant she could beat cancer.

Her struggle with painful treatments and dispiriting setbacks was recorded in the television documentary "Farrah's Story."  Farrah sought cures in Germany as well as the United States, battling the disease with iron determination even as her body weakened.

"Her big message to people is don't give up, no matter what they say to you, keep fighting," her friend Alana Stewart said. NBC estimated the May 15, 2009, broadcast drew nearly 9 million viewers.

In the documentary, Fawcett was seen shaving off most of her trademark locks before chemotherapy could claim them. Toward the end, she's seen huddled in bed, barely responding to a visit from her son.

Farrah Fawcett will be sadly missed by her long term partner Ryan O'Neal, her son Redmond, her family and her many fans and friends.

Ryan said in his announcement regarding the loss of Farrah...."After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away,"

He also said "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."
