Many people feel the need for a little help creating the perfect hair and makeup. With good cause.

A professional hairdresser or colorist will have absolutely no sentimental or emotional reasons to encourage an attachment to an outdated hair style, faded brassy color or raggedy ends.

Master makeover experts provide objective opinions through a pair of fresh eyes. An analysis of your face shape, skin and eye tones along with your hair texture, condition and type instantly determines how to make your best features dazzle.

Spectacular results occur when an entire makeover team of seasoned hairdressers, colorists and make-up mavens collaborate for a unified and customized final look.

When a hair color and makeup is harmonized with a new hair cut and style that is designed to enhance your natural beauty while addressing your lifestyle, budget and personal desires you can achieve the appearance of your dreams .

For many people the concept of a hair makeover conjures up images of major color or cuts. This is usually not the case.

The very best makeovers utilize a skilled professional team crafting a dramatic difference by simply working with the existing hues and styles while bumping them up a little.

By studying face shape, skin tone and other features, a skilled hair master can make a few tweaks that result in maximum benefits with minimal change.

The team of John Sahag professional hair, color and makeup experts partnered with Multi Media Magazine (MMI) to transform lucky winners of a recent MMI Model Makeover Contest.

Model Christal (shown above & throughout this piece) visited the world renowned John Sahag Workshop, NYC (212-750-7772) as one of the finalists in the Makeover Contest.

The professional makeover provided by The John Sahag Workshop Team was designed to enhance, rather than dramatically alter, her existing look.

The Makeover

The Cut

Master stylist Jutta Weiss started the make over process by first studying Christal's face shape for inspiration.

Jutta determined that Christal had a prominent square face shape which needed to be balanced and softened. Christal's natural hair was fine with a natural wave texture.

Jutta's conclusion for a great makeover look?

Christal's current long hair drained her features so Jutta designed a new haircut to punch up Christal's bone structure.

The master hairstyle decided to create a precision sculpted dry hair short chin length cut with very long layers.

She also believed the addition of a new side swept forehead hugging fringe would help to spotlight Christal's eyes while balancing balance her square shaped face which had a slightly narrow small forehead in comparison to her wider cheekbones.

Utilizing the world famous Sahag dry cut methodology, Jutta painstakingly sectioned, cut and carved a series of shapes into Christal's hair, moving in and out between the strands carefully creating a series of spectacular layers that culminated in a haircut built upon natural soft movement and flow.

Jutta carefully chiseled a fringe that was constructed of angled side swept layers that cascaded over Christal's forehead along one side to spotlight her eyes and naturally balance her forehead and face..

The finished style was a unique work of hair art custom crafted for Christal resulting in her strands falling perfectly into place.

The Color

Christal During - Foil Highlights

Christal's pre-makeover hue was a dirty blonde hue with uneven brassy and off yellow tones with a much darker root regrowth along the part.

The combination of the uneven blonde tones with the dark roots washed out Christal's skin and eyes.

John Sahag master colorist Santino Acquista's makeover plan was to take Christal's dirty blonde hue to a platinum base while masterfully blending and balancing all of the various blonde tones.

Santino's focused on brightening Christal's skin tone and adding a natural glow. The platinum base hue was designed to enhance Christal's beautiful eyes as well as remove the brassy and yellow tones of her previous color.

After lightening Christal's base to the desired platinum, he carefully hand painted alternating ribbons of lighter platinum highlights and splashes of slighter darker blonde lowlights designed to work in harmony with the newly sculpted short bob inspired haircut and to add dimension and contrast.

The Styling

After precision processing time Christal's foils were removed and her hair was shampooed. The results were spectacular. The final platinum base color was luscious and infused with a subtle rainbow of creamy white highlighted tones.

Carefully darker blonde hued lowlights radiated from the perimeter of the style. The subtle highlights fanned out as subtle splashes of light around the hairline and at the crown.

To protect the delicate new hues, John Sahag Clean For Chemically Altered Hair - a color maintenance shampoo - was used on Christal's hair followed by use of the John Sahag Clean Conditioning rinse for her naturally coarse tresses.

Christal's hair was towel dried. Since her hair was naturally wavy, John Sahag No Frizz Styling Gel was applied very liberally a few inches from the roots and then worked into the strands down to the ends to help block the formation of frizz and create a straight blow out.

Once product was distributed throughout Christal's hair Jutta separated her hair into smaller sections.

Using a round boar's bristle style brush and a blow dryer with a concentrator, Jutta blow dried Christal's hair, starting at the back of the head while directing the air flow down the shaft from the roots to the ends straightening the strands while also building in lots of major fullness and movement.

The Finishing Touches

Once Christal's hair was completely dry Jutta applied a tiny bit of John Sahag Revitalizing Drops to the palms of her hands and distributed the product through Christal's tresses to add a dab of shine and renew the texture of the newly styled strands.

She used a brush to slightly backcomb the crown area to add extra fullness.

Creating a side part she directed a soft sweep of hair over to one side of the crown. Jutta also directed a section of hair down and over the top of one side of Christal's forehead.

The side swept strands brushed across the side of one eye creating an Old Hollywood Veronica Lake sassy style.

Jutta used a hot iron to spot smooth the fringe and any of the strands that needed a straighter finish.

She skillfully pulled individual pieces along the nape and sides and finger picked the style until it was an edgy cap of sleek and shimmering strands.

When the style was complete Jutta finished with a spritz of John Sahag Air Lift Hairspray to add shine and ultimate hold.

The Make-Up

Makeup artist Phyllis Talley evaluated Christal's skin and eye tone along with her face shape and stunning new hair hue to craft a major makeup design.

She created an instant face dazzling transformation with an eyebrow shaping that eliminated heavy brows. Phyllis also lightened up the brows to showcase Christal's gorgeous big hazel eyes.

After

The final results of Christal's makeover were mouth dropping and eye.

The masterful John Sahag team created a sleek sassy face framing deconstructed bob inspired style infused with gorgeous multi-toned platinum hues that worked in perfect harmony with Christal's skin and eye tones.

The newly created shine from the gorgeous hues were blindingly beautiful.

Even better, Christal's face was transformed from a boxy square shape to a soft oval inspired shape that completely focused attention on her gorgeous eyes and shimmering skin.
