Sebastian GREASE

Introduction

Billed as a "flexible fixative," Sebastian GREASE does a nice job as a hair sculpting product. Since I wear the Bed Head hairdo, I always like trying new products to keep that "big toe in the light socket" hair-on-end look I like so well.

My current favorite finishing products are the hair sticks, but I have to say that GREASE, a pomade-like product, does an admirable job of keeping my hair style.

Usage

You can apply as much or as little as you like to wet or dry hair. I scooped out about a teaspoon's worth and gooped it on my towel-dried hair. You can either do as I do; which is to start at the scalp and run the product straight up to keep the hair standing up, or you can smooth your hair down and create a sleek, head-hugging look. It 's a nice advantage to be able to use it on wet or dry hair, by the way. GREASE would be great to keep in your desk drawer at work for those times when you want to go directly from work out to dinner or wherever--you can easily create a whole new look.

Packaging

GREASE comes in a white plastic jar with Sebastian's traditional clean, crisp black lettering. Depending on the product, Sebastian adds specific colors to the packaging. In this case, it's lime green around the word "GREASE." It's small enough to keep in your purse if you wanted to, yet it contains a lot of product (1.5 oz.).

Fragrance

The fragrance is very light; even with your nose right on top of the product, you can barely detect its scent. My own opinion is that "less is more" when it comes to hair products like these--you don't want to be overpowered by the scent of your shower soap, shampoo, conditioner, perfume, AND hair sculpting goo!

How I Tested GREASE

I used GREASE the for first time right after washing my hair. I used my usual gel and hairspray first, then finished it with a liberal amount of GREASE. As I mentioned earlier, I got the results I wanted.

The next time I tried it, I used it on dry hair right after I got home from work. I was going out that night, and didn't want to wash my hair, just give it a lift. Truthfully, I never expect much from these "use on wet or dry hair" deals, so I was pleasantly surprised that it did such a good job. It was almost as if I'd washed my hair and started all over again, and my hair looked great. I was able to style it easily and quickly--another big plus!

Unlike some similar products, GREASE does not have an unpleasant heavy, greasy feel. I've tried some products that feel like you're putting chicken fat or candle wax in your hair! GREASE has a light texture; it disappears into the hair, and doesn't attract dust or pollen as some others tend to do.

Ingredients

Petrolatum, mineral oil, cetyl acetate, acetylated lanolin alcohol, ozokerite,oleth-3, cyclomethicone, fragrance, propylparaben.

Conclusion

I liked Sebastian's GREASE, and recommend it highly. I especially liked the fact that you can use it successfully on either wet or dry hair, and I feel it's one of the better products of its type on the market today.

Jane's Rating

On my own scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I give GREASE a 9.

Daily Hair Tip
When towel drying wet hair never rub hair roughly or twist up into a towel. This will potentially damage delicate hair cuticles. Instead carefully blot hair with superabsortant towel and squeeze hair gently to remove moisture.
