Term: Wax Pomade

Wax Pomades are a hybrid type of hair styling product which combines the best of both wax and pomades into one product.

Hair wax consists primarily of wax and offers medium hold. Hair wax can be applied to hair whether wet or dry. When applied to dry hair the wax needs to be softened in the palms of your hand.

Hair pomades contain some wax but their key ingredient is oil which is often petroleum based oils. As the hair world changes some of the pomades have more natural based oils.

The hairstyling world is always striving to elevate products and the Wax Pomade is the result of combining the holding power or wax with the shine of pomade.

As a rule pomade is easier to apply to wet hair rather than dry hair, but Wax Pomade can be applied to either wet or dry hair with equal benefit.

Hair Wax, Hair Pomade or Wax Pomade is designed for hair which is short to medium length. It is not often used for hair that is shoulder length or longer except for small spot styling.

The benefit of hair wax is that its provides medium hold. The benefit of pomade is that it provides shine and a wet look. Pomade also helps to block hair frizz for some.

Hair wax provide clumping or adds points to textured hair at the bottom of certain types of hair cuts. Textured bobs often utilize wax for creating points throughout the style.

When hair pomade is applied liberally to wet hair it makes the hair look wet and glossy all day. It can also serve as a good moisturizing product for hair, especially when it is comprised of natural and organic oils.

The current version of wax pomades provides all the shine and control of wax with a clean, water-based formula. It provides separation and definition like wax with flexible control and a nice shine. Wax pomades tend to remain moist throughout the day but are easier to wash out that traditional wax or pomade products.

Daily Hair Tip
To protect against potential heat damage to your hair, always use a blow drier on the coolest setting and make sure to apply a good leave in conditioner that will protect the hair shaft from the dryer.
